Great guidance, Gene. I do have one question though.
Wouldn't it be better to sand up some fluff inside the crown beneath the sweatband (no problem in this case) so the sanded area is hidden behind the sweatband and sandwiched between the sweatband and the ribbon? [huh]

Thanks to Lefty and JTL for the additional information they posted. We may never know the entire history of the Stetson brand but a lot resides on this forum and more is yet to be discovered.
Mr. P & JTL, The hat came from our favorite outlet store in Garland. I bought two just so I could modify one. I did the brim cutting, modified the crease from a c-crown to a long 4-point diamond, and initial ribbon and bow work.
I wasn't completely happy with my work, so off it went to Jimmy...
