The beat up Vanson Swedish Dispatch I snagged from the bay should be in on Friday, to round out my little collection.
The Tan Vanson needs me to lose some weight to fit into, the black HG fits great and this incoming one is a about a size and a half too big, but I’m betting it will work out...
For 30 bucks just buy it. A Navy issue pea coat in a size 46 that’s pre-Quarterdeck era are as rare as hens teeth. You could sell it for $60.00 if you don’t like it, double your investment, and whoever bought it for $60 would still be getting a smoking deal on a super nice pea coat.
The US made Co is thicker, but the California Leather Creations is no slouch. The USMade is thicker than my Vanson’s. Not as dense and hard, but I’m sure a caliper would show the USMCo has the thickest hide.
The CLCre. is plenty thick and heavy duty, it’s a real biker jacket for sure. The...
Couple of thoughts…
First is that the arrow in your picture, pointing to the “problem” collar, is the one spreading like most people are trying to make there collar. The collar in your picture without the arrow, is doing more of a shirt collar thing. If you like the shirt collar bend, hang it...
I've had Vanson do a wash and condition of a track suit for me. It needed some holes repaired and the wrists needed to be taken in.
The suit didn't smell, but the leather needed conditioning.
I was happy to pay to get the leather into track ready condition.
I've also cleaned and conditioned my...
Now I have a question!
I ‘ve got a California Leather Creations cross zip the way, it was an impulse buy because the pictures make the hide look crazy thick. I’m hoping for leather like what US MADE CO, or Natel/Natal use.
Sometimes I want to wear a cross zip that I’m not actively breaking in...
Hein Gericke had their jackets built overseas in various countries, but they were hand made, and each one went through an inspection process. They’re an off the rack, bulk brand, not a small shop making jackets a few at a time under one roof, so not a Johnson Leathers, or Vanson level of...
shoulder width doesn't matter
shoulder width is critical
Both are right, it depends on the pattern and overall shaping of the jacket.
I'm putting up pictures of a Raglan Sleeve, as Monitor mentioned, then a Grand Ausiette sleeve from a 13th century Arming Cote, then a photo of a dispatch...
These are my Xero Shoes “Denver” model.
My daily wear in Brooklyn. They’re a “barefoot” shoe, canvas upper and flannel liner with glued on sole. They’re essentially moccasins built to survive long term use on concrete sidewalks.
They’re crazy durable, I thought the flannel liner would wear...
The HG I have closes with two hook and eyes, and a clip and eye at the waist. Three inner buttons up the center. Three outer buttons for the double breast, two toggles at the shoulder, and an adjustable slide hook at the neck.
My wife has accused me of deliberately making things more difficult...
I ended up getting a pair of NOS vintage Vendramini dual sport touring boots. I’ll snag the model name and some photos in the morning, but they’re full height, with 5 Velcro strap closures instead of the buckles I was hoping for. But they do have ankle armor on both sides of the ankle, double...
My D3O experience happened 8 years ago, so I don’t know if it’s still applicable.
I had a jacket come with D3O armor, and I really liked it. It felt dense, would soften up within a few minutes of putting on the jacket, and I’d does harden on impact.
One spring, after maybe 3 years of service...
Leather pea coats never seem to have enough overlap of the double breasted front. Both Schott and Vanson versions have too narrow overlaps. I bet Johnson could make one based off an original navy issue, that would be awesome.
