Favorite beer
Remember your first taste of beer? The one your dad or mom let you sneak from their long neck bottle or church key opened can back in the 50's? Before Child Protective Services sprang from its demon crucible? Ok, I love Schlitz. No classy panache. No high profile pitchpeople. No...
favorite potable
"The horror....the horror.." I drink Schlitz beer. It's very hard to find here, as detractors say it should be. But here's the thing: It's a true taste of the 50's: They evidently didn't tinker with the trendy lighter recipes like Bud and others. It's just like your parents...
hung over to work
Partying and boozing seem more important than ever during wartime and "The Greatest Generation" seemed to feel that way too, from what I read and what my mom says.
shave
Anyone here ever had a barber shave?
Mine will do it but I haven't had the courage to let a man hold a straight razor to my throat, although that is always a possibility on my commute.
Bow ties and TC
I cannot tell if this thread is about bowties or the commentator, TC. Anyway, I wear bowties occasionally to annoy people and to justify the time spent learning to tie them. I favor the straight small kind, (terminology? The ones Arnold Stang wore. PM me and I'll tell you who he...
Khaki on khaki
GI's wore whatever mismatched khaki items they got from the quartermaster but you have a choice. Generally, I do not take any fashion advice from my wife but yours has given you a good steer here. Without more information, mixing khakis is a dangerous game.
boots and shoes
dead stock Redwings are usually available on ebay and are great shoes. Is it me (yes, yes it probably is), but is anyone else bothered by the looks of the padding around the ankles of new shoes and boots? I'm sure it's very comfortable and a good idea but I can't bring myself to...
What am I wearing today that looks vintage?
horn rimmed glasses; spit shined military oxford shoes (amazingly bought on ebay, they are 25 year old Craddock-Terry's (unworn when bought-dead stock), that fit me like a glove and take a spit shine like a million bucks. The navy Brooks Brother's...
Leather jackets
Four: an LL Bean A2; two US Wings Indiana Jones, favorite is the weathered cowhide; and my own well tanned but very wrinkled carcasse skin.
I know these leathers brands are anathema in here but they serve me well and I like the way they look.
Biltmore
Last year I acquired a vintage Biltmore homburg. What a beautiful hat, complete with box. I am uncomfortable wearing it yet, (see thread I started today on this) but am looking forward to it someday.
I am a daily fedora wearer in cold weather, usually a vintage Dobbs 2 1/2" snap brim, high crown. I have a beautiful black Homburg but haven't worn it because it looks too formal. Anyone wear one of these great hats on a regular basis? I am jealous.
Yes, pretty nervy of a newbie starting a...
