A Resurgance of the pocket square?

I like them and occasionally wear them for social occasions but at my workplace, a Midwestern superregional bank, there is a strong correlation between the size of the pocket hankie and the self -importance of the wearer. There is also an inverse ratio to the amount of real work performed.

    Brylcreem

Before I got my present flat top, I used Score because it seemed less 'greasy' than Brylcream, which I last used when my Score ran out. I am interested to see that Brilliantine is evidently still around, although it seems to have become a 'generic' term. The ubiquitous Wikipedia credits Pinaud...

    What are you doing.........

Small gathering at a neighbor's home to play euchre (we had planned to stay home to watch South Carolina's bowl game) and drink too much cheap wine.

Help me replace my dying Florsheims?

I have a couple of pairs from AE bought online and they are pretty decent shoes.

    Bowlers making a comback?

This is only a testimonial: I have three of John's hats, a Regency fur felt topper, an 1812 US General's Chapeaux Bras and amazingly, a 7" silk plush topper! They are NOT inexpensive but really well made period style hats. John is not a speed demon either but the making times are reasonable, a...

Cordovan shells...Are they worth the difference in price?

The long-wearing durability of cordovan is reason enough for the extra investment. I have a pair that have been resoled three times and I expect to be wearing them until I am dependent on motorized wheels. Properly cared for, they never wear out.

The Third Man: Chutes and Ladders

Has anyone else noticed that Holly Martins walks under a ladder in the scene after his arrival in Vienna? That's bad luck in the U-S-of-A and certainly portends what's to become of him in the movie. Could Carrol Reed have been that sly? (Well, yes of course he could have but does anyone else...

    Frankly Franco

L'Onset: Thank you! I found a good replica for this badge with a center having the emblem of the Spanish African Army (Morocco) which looks very similar, two crossed rifles and a silver crescent moon across them, below center, on the todocoleccion site. Thanks to your fine photos, I should be...

Berlin museum breaks Nazi taboo with Hitler exhibition

Thank you marcoshark. I think yours is the most interesting commentary on this thread. Am nearly done with Richard Evan's The Coming of the Third Reich and after nearly 50 years of reading WW2 history, had never had the violence of what happened to opponents of that regime, and particularly...

    UFOs and WWII

Accepting the plausibilty of the 'bell' project and whatever happened to it postwar, the foo fighters are all the less likely to have been anything terrestrial. They exhibited performance and maneuverability beyond anything the bad guys were capable of at the time, by any propulsion method...

    UFOs and WWII

Blackjack: Google "Kecksburg UFO" and also read the synopsis of the book "SS Brotherhood of the Bell" by Joseph Farrell on Amazon. Farrell's book is the most concentrated dose of wierd I have ever read. He writes prose very well but it's a paranoid gibberish stew of conspiracy ideas. A...

Blackjack, you dealt a winner with that one. I think I became incontinent laughing! This would be almost as funny set in the Antarctic base 'Thule' that some loonies believe exists. They sure are taking their time coming back and I for one am glad!

Thanks AP for all you do for the living history set

The Hard Truth FredH: As unfair as it is, this sums up a hard truth. All the explanations in the world won't change the impression of anyone seeing or even hearing tell of a candidate dressed in a WW2 German uniform, let alone one that bore the particular insignia of the Waffen SS. Topic...

Thanks AP for all you do for the living history set

Living History I agree. There is no attempt to put reenacting into any context. Most reenactors are not anitsocial neo anything. They love history and still have some 'little boy' in them.
