Insignia
Yes, the rank insignia was mentioned above in post #6. I have the rank insignia and it's affixed. I need to confirm what the 'collective medal' badge in the forearm has in the center. Best bet is the Legion crest. Someone in the Lounge will know.
Jacket
I would be interested. I can't find the 'naked cow' on the site. What kind of finish is it? I assume the 'Hero' is our hero, Indy? Phil
PS-edited the post: I found it. I am interested. Please PM me or email me (PM sent to you) for purchase info-prefer Paypal, if that is possible.
Rank
The uniform I have depicts Franco circa 1937 or so-intended to be sometime between 1936 and 1939. The rank insignia you describe is on each collar point, on the front of the cap and on the sleeve cuffs. I have put on the rank insignia for a Major General, with the gold star centering...
Thanks
L'Onset: I understand from reading "Ghosts of Spain: Travels Through Spain and its Silent Past" by Giles Tremlett, that the subject of the Civil War is still very touchy. I confess I would have been rooting for your grandfather's side but I am glad Mr. Orwell was spared to write his...
St. Ferndinand
L'Onset:
That is a possibility. The photos and portraits seem to show a badge with a different pattern in the center of the collective award badge, though. The St. Ferdinand Laureate collective badge is rather subdued in the center-I found one on the Todocoleccion site. In the...
Ask not for whom the elephant bells toll
Remember 'elephant bells'? In our perverted present, I can only imagine the fortune a mint, with tags pair would sell for!
Quoting Colonel Kurtz: "The horror....the horror....."
Time Travel
Only if I could take today's social values and medical care back with me. I much prefer the clothes, cars, diet, habits and general deportment of adults vis a vis each other and children then, than now. And I certainly would NOT take Ipods, email, cell phones and PC's back (what...
BOOMER BUY-IN
Yes. I was there. (Born 1953). I still have flashbacks of the bell bottoms, tie dyed T shirts and fatigue jackets. History may repeat itself but I hope I am long gone, and I plan to live to 101 just to annoy my children and spouse.
This is a bit off the beaten, but thought some Loungers might know the answer. I am getting together a display of the uniforms of Franco and one of his principal antagonists, Republican general Jose Miaja Menant.
Many photos of Franco show a small round embroidered badge on his lower left...
Marky Mark
The Keystonearsenal replica is a .38 Mark IV. I have the original larger .455 Mark VI to compare and that is a larger revolver by some appreciable degree. Still, it is a nice replica and as noted, the only one I have found as an all-metal one. I hope Keystone decides to fix the...
U-Boat leathers
You might give Scott Babcock at Traders of the Lost Surplus a try. He's kind of ADHD but he has never failed to get things made, given enough time and nagging. regalia@totls.com

Copies
I may begin a thread in a different forum on this, which began with militaria but also includes many other things. I also, as do many others, enjoy trying to replicate the clothing of characters in popular movies. These are really worthwhile projects if you avoid the 'costumes' that are...
U-Boat Badge with Diamonds
A good copy is something to enjoy and be proud to show. Hats off to those lucky people who can find and afford the original things they want. We will enjoy the best copies we can manage.
PS: I have one of those replica U-Boat badges with diamonds too, made for a...
Webley Mark IV review
Well, I now have both Webley Mark IV replicas in hand. I have a real one for comparison so let me say that this is an "A" copy, as far as appearance. It is nearly the same size (smaller) and 'heft' of the original and has the 'plastic' (Bakelite on the originals?) grips...
