Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

The buyer with the most money to spend wins the auction. Simple and logical.

    The 1920 JAZZ SUIT

Thank you for the picture. I like the coat to the far right, with those interesting on-seam pockets.

Chaplin Mustache in Modern Day Society?

Have anyone ever seen a man with such a mustache after WWII? Unfortunately the toothbrush mustache has become the number one recognized feature of Hitler, i mean, you could make a toothbrush mustache on any stick-figure and everyone would think Hitler.

Men's DRESS BOOTS to suit all budgets.

When mine got to that level (of "creasiness") i gave up and i haven't polished them ever since. They look better now; i cannot see the ugly finish beneath all the dirt. There is something about the texture of the finish, don't you think?

Men's DRESS BOOTS to suit all budgets.

They dont look like the stacy adams i have. Though i must say, mine never looked as good as those on the SA website.

    Formality; Single-breasted vs. Double-breasted suits

I don't know if that was the original purpouse of the waistcoat ((not only the DB) (and i guess nobody will ever know)), but it certainly helps as far as looking good without your jacket on. It is good not having to constantly worry about your shirt bulging out or getting un-tucked in all sorts...

    Patch pockets with hidden seams?????

Tailor tom: Have you tried doing it from the inside by hand? Ive done this once, and found it much easier to do by first loosely stitching to pocket to the jacket from the outside, then back-stitching as normal from the inside, being careful to not to make the stitches show on the front of the...

How is that first one a dress boot? More like a loafer in my opinion.

    Removing underarm stains

If you have a cheap washing machine you should consider getting a better one. My new washing machine washes quicker, and runs more silent, but best of all; it got rid of the stains around the collar, inside of the cuffs and in the armpit of all my shirts. If throwing a good portion of money on a...

Yet Another My Custom Tailor Suit

Ask them about it. They often have fabrics that are not listed on the site.

Black suit with coloured waist coats

I wouldn't consider either a faux pas. To my knowledge both combinations were worn in the Victorian and to a lesser extent Edwardian periods. Personally i think those combinations only look good when done with subdued patterns and colours. Here is an example of a nice looking ensemble featuring...

    Linen suit experiment

Try having some made in heavier linen, it is my experience that it is easier to make a trouser that drapes nicely with the added weight.

    Amazing vintage razor auction

10,000 dollars? Thats an insane price. $500 seems like a more feasible price if you ask me. After all its only gold plated.

    Do you own a Tux?

I can hardly imagine that dinner jacket being anything else than some kind of jazz suit/dinner suit crossover. It has details typical of the tuxedo of the time, (the trimmed cuffs, the link closure, trim at pockets etc.) but as Charlie notes, during that time there was also an emphasis on...

    Heavenly Madras Morning Suit Score

I would say 1890 to 1910 or thereabout. In the beginning of the 20th C. there was a shift towards peg-top style trousers. When less tapered trousers came into fashion again i think a clergy would be wearing a lounge suit instead of a morning coat.

Men's DRESS BOOTS to suit all budgets.

I believe no one has mentioned this company: http://www.harr-shoes.com. They make custom boots and shoes at a (comparably) comfortable price. http://ungfarbror.blogspot.com/2008/09/knppkngor-p-riktigt.html <---- This guy paid 3900 SEK, about 550 dollars, for his.

    Self-tailoring

Horizontal lines like that can be due to your jackets shoulders being too narrow, or it could be due to your shoulders being angled forward more than is normal. It can be fixed like bk describes, but as far as I am concerned that method is a bit half hearted as the real problem is not just...

Making mens clothing: where are the vintage mens clothing patterns?

Vintage mens patterns can be found in tailoring/cutters manuals used in bespoke tailoring. These are books that contain several standardized patterns and complete instructions on how to modify the pattern to a set of measurements specified. Its actually pretty straightforward as far as the...

    The Cap Faction

That is the exact same man I saw in Venice two weeks ago. He was oozing so much style I couldn't help but noticing him.
