The Role of Education In Assigning Value to Societal Labor Sectors

I too feel no guilt for my success, which I attained through much hard work. However I did not do it alone. I was fortunate that my fathers employer had a policy of hiring employees children who were in college, for summer work. These were no "make work" jobs, we were doing the same work as our...

You know you are getting old when:

It is now over a century since the start of WW1, when I was a child it was still a living memory. And now, WW2 is fading away into history.

Now Forming! the Campaign Hat Corps

My M1911 My father found this in a local antique shop. It has the United Hatters tag, but no stitching on the brim, which should make this a late WW1 model.

    Clean Jokes

A baby seal walks into a bar, the bartender says "What'll you have"? The seal replies, "anything except a canadian club".

Did you attend a college or university?

You don't have to go to school to learn. Where I work, some of our best engineers had no college degree, while some with Phd.s have proven to be less useful. Smart people never stop learning, in or out of school. As to the original question, I got my BSEE at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

    J. Robert Oppenheimer Fedora

I work in a physics lab, it is not unusual for physicists to have an engineering background (usually electrical), and vice versa. One of my best engineering professors was a former particle physicist.

    Stolen eBay hat

Unfortunately, mail theft is becoming rather common. Last July, I lost a hat that was delivered by USPS priority mail while I was out- someone stole it from my front porch where it was left. Apparently people will follow the mail truck, looking for a delivery made where no one is home. I was...

    Hurricane Sandy

We got our power back this evening here in Oceanport. At the Monmouth Park racetrack, there is an amazing collection of tents and temporary housing for the line crews from as far away as Alabama. My heartfelt thanks to all those who have come from so far to help us.

    Hurricane Sandy

Regardless of the name, Oceanport is actually 3 miles inland. There are low areas along the Shrewsbury river that are prone to flood, but most of the older parts of town are on higher (and dry) ground. I guess that is how they got to be the older parts of town!
