Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Sure, learn your karate, we all know who's houses you'll be running to when the zombies rise. :D

Guy has to pretend to be his buddy to fool someone, though it usually works out. School of Rock, Bad Boys, Roxanne (though at least they cite Cyrano), any number of teen comedies. (I'm giving Shakepeare a pass because he's old skool :D )

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Tom, In your reading of the 2nd and how it applies today to personal ownership, self-defense and the "militia" I believe you are in opposition to a growing majority of current independent Constitutional scholarship. I recommend you read the DC Court of Appeal's opinion on Parker v. DC...

Death Hunt is on AMC. Nice mix of period cold weather gear and equipment. Lee Marvin has some great snow goggles and a parka with a cool binocular pocket.

Sand Pebbles and Getaway are my top two.

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

If someone overdoses due to their decision to overuse heroin or dies of lung cancer from overusing cigarettes, why should I care? They made their bed, just don't bill me. If they choose to commit crimes that hurt others, they should go to jail, just like anyone else who commits a crime. I...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Yep, do what you want as long as you don't hurt others. If you lose control and screw up your own life, feel free. Just don't ask me to support you directly or indirectly. The libertarian snark is that we are fighting a "War on Some Drugs".

What I find realistic is when the noble (and soul-sick) white guy comes along and, healed by their inherent spirituality, saves the red/black/yellow people from other white people.

Ditto. If all I ever use my firearms for is recreation (which is likely) then I will certainly not be disappointed. I like living in a place where decent people can own and choose to carry weapons, I'd hate to live in a place where they had to.

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Very good point Jack. Which is why hunting and target shooting aren't mentioned in the Constitution. For good or ill and interpret it however you want (that's a discussion for a different place than the Lounge), they were talking about the primary purposes of arms, use against other people...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

How's that working out for us? I'm talking "legal", as in "massively deregulated", as in prove you're 21 and buy it OTC like booze. But, again, that's a whole nother thread and explicitly political.

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Bingo, but not precise enough. Handguns are designed for defensive use. They trade killing power for convenience of carry. Thus to use them as I, John and millions of other people do is exactly what they are designed for and is perfectly safe and moral. They provide a practical way for a...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

The illogic is equating the fact that guns can be deadly with that being their only function. Lots of things are deadly, when either misused or used illegally. A handgun being able to cause death is only an issue if it causes the unlawful death of someone through negligence or criminal...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Something to keep in mind. Talking about who owns guns isn't politics, it's just conversation. Talking about personal feelings about guns or their use isn't necessarily politics either, it's more philosophy. Talking about taking actions on those feelings that affect gun ownership or...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Non-Americans? Ever been to the Philippines? :D Guns are still allowed in most European countries, even your neighbors in Britain, and there are still active shooting communities in all of them. You just have to look a bit harder to find them. The tight controls on general ownership are...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

Sen. Jack, Think of it this way. Before the gun, the weak, more poorly equipped and/or the few were always at the mercy of the stronger, better armed (with hand-to-hand weapons) and/or the many. Think armored knights and peasants or farmers versus bandits, heck think you alone versus 3...

Hand gun ownership in the U.S.

The revolvers were French and period correct, I'd have to look up the make and model. I've got more handguns than fingers but fewer total guns than digits. Fletch, You'll find very little of the modern Constitutional scholarship on the Second Amendment or peer-reviewed (that's key)...

One of my favorite pieces of kit is the Norwegian Army sweater I got during a Battle Griffin. Shawl neck and the sleeves had little thumbholes if you needed to roll the cuff down. I can't find a picture online. Came with a velcro closure on the neck, I should look into having it converted...

Salv, "The Battle for Spain" by Antony Beevor. Chap. 24 is most on point but he discusses it throughout.
