    The Stratoliner Society {VINTAGE}

Jimmy the lid makes a very interesting argument, and I agree that the photo looks like there are TWA markings on the pin in the photo. What I'd like to see is if there is any surviving internal Stetson documents about the airplane pin, and where it came from if possible. I still wonder if...

    Bogies' hat?

I would imagine that if it had a verifiable provenance, the seller would have listed it with a reserve.

    Miller Hats - Houston Texas

A good bit of inner loop Houston is in the same boat, due to all the old trees going down on the powerlines. At least they didn't get major damage like some buildings.

    The Thankful Thread

Same as Foofoogal, thankful that my home was spared from damage by Ike. It's a mess down here, but at least I'm safe.

    Show us your Pyrex

I have a few pieces of early clear light blue tinted Pyrex Flameware, including a frying pan, that my Grandmother bought back when it came out. If my power ever comes back on here in Houston, I'll upload some photos. I'm on limited laptop power at present.

    Does Anyone Drink Rye Whiskey?

Kermez, go by Specs downtown and check out the better offerings of Rye they have. The six year old Sazerac Rye is a good starter Rye, and snag some Peychauds bitters and Herbsaint for a Sazerac cocktail.;) Just avoid the Mata Hari Absinthe in the liqueur section.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Whenever we went up to Philly to visit my grandparents, we would always make a stop at the Horn & Hardart Automat when I was very small. Later, they had a cafeteria type place in Philly if I remember correctly. I remember going with my Grandmom to Howard Johnson's restaurant, which are all...

    Gramophones, Phonographs, Victrolas....

I have a similar Victor, a 270 that my Grandparents bought in the mid 1920s, along with all the original papers. Along with a "Lifetime Warranty". Other than having the spring re-greased, it's outlived the "Lifetime Warranty" and the store that offered the warranty. One unusual gadget that I...

    The Miracle of Absinthe

Not quite, one distillation is needed to make absinthe. First one macerates the herbs in alcohol, then the macerate is distilled, then colored. (if one is making a verte) It does take a number of hours depending on the size of the run. This might illustrate the process better...

Why Huey got punched one of the theories  : http://motac.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!4EC640AAC91CB84E!382.entry One evening in 1933, Huey was out with friends at the Sands Point Casino night club on Long Island. With several Sazeracs under his belt, Huey made a spectacle of himself, eating...

    The Miracle of Absinthe

Don't waste your money on the Le Tourment Vert, it's undrinkable. Le Tourment Vert is closer to drinking industrial waste mixed with mouthwash. :rage: Avoid at all costs.

    Prohibition

There were cocktails well before prohibition, with several pre-prohibition cocktail books, that document early recipes. Mixed drinks did become even more important during prohibition because of the quality of bootleg booze, and this carried over to post prohibition, as spirits that required...

    Prohibition

Thank You, a number of the bottles date from the immediate post-prohibition era, and a few others I haven't yet unveiled, date even earlier. (The ones still full, have turned out to be a revelation as far as taste.) The history of these New Orleans distillers, and their activities before and...

Correct, distilling without a federal license is very illegal.

    Prohibition

Jung & Wulff survived using that strategy, but ironically they sold out their business post prohibition, due to the public prefering harder liquor, over liqueurs, and cordials, as well as the effect of the economic depression on their sales.
