You are correct. My Optimo black cherry is a more formal hat, ie wider ribbon, bound brim, traditional bow, but that could be easily remedied by changing the design of the hat. I don't think the color itself dictates a dress hat or a more casual hat.
That pretty much sums it up according to Art. I believe Art's comment in Monteagle was something to the effect of "They can call it anything they want, but that's black cherry." Of course, I will yield to Art's comments and corrections here if he chooses.
I still really like my Optimo...
Interestingly, when Art saw my "oxblood" Public Enemies hat, he insisted it isn't oxblood at all but black cherry. Having seen the two colors side by side, I'm now a believer and I agree with Art.
+1 on the Cain maduro. I bought two last March and smoked one. I thought that one was pretty harsh. The second sat in my humidor until September when I decided to give it another try. I was surprised and pleased at the results of six months humidor time. Now I have a box aging and getting ready...
I've found that age treats the Cain maduros very well. I would suggest putting a few of them back for six months or so. Seems to age a lot of the harshness out of them.
We went to Iowa this weekend to visit our nephew at school. I had several cigars: an RP Cuban Blend maduro, a La Traviata maduro and a Perdomo Patriarch maduro. The last two were quite good, but the RP is still up for grabs. We'll see after the next.
Two more beauties, DRB and RLK.
I received felt samples in the mail from Tiffani today. I asked for browns and received ten or twelve of them. I have a rust long coat I'm looking for a match for, and oddly the burnt orange is the closest. I'm surprised, as I saw the burnt orange there last...
I have often thought of trying Lagavulin, but I usually prefer to fuller flavor of a younger bottle.
Tonight I had a 601 Green Tronco, a very nice full flavored cigar.
