There are lots of other great vintage styles you can do with medium-length hair as well. This was the most common length in the 40s and there are all sorts of updos, partial updos and styles worn down that you can do! You should pick up some vintage hairstyling books to get an idea of the many...
Yes, Faryl Robin makes a lot of great, repro style shoes (and they also make a lot of ugly ones too). Zappos, Ebay, Amazon, Endless and the other sites mentioned are great places to start. Do a search for "faryl" in the "vintagey shoes" thread and you'll probably find quite a few of their best...
They're a little different in that they have comb teeth on the bottom that face front and back, not little nubs that face down. I think this helps give it a more secure hold. It's also more practical if you just want one for only a few dollars. I don't really need 3 or 4 Bumpits!
You're welcome! I had a lot of reservations about posting this lest everyone start searching for them (and I'll be honest, this is why I haven't shared the million search terms I use for them when hunting online lol). However, this is absolutely the richest vintage resource online and I think...
I just bought a different kind of Bumpits at CVS - Conair Hi-Styles. It was much cheaper than Bumpits. I haven't really tried it yet, but I've been doing a basic 60s style lately - top pulled back in a barrette and pushed forward for volume, then secured with a bobby pin. I wear the sides and...

Also, I was never able to fit stuff on myself. I need a dress form!
I've actually seen recommendations for this before. I would recommend securing them with small safety pins at the top, bottom and sides to the seams of the dress. If there's no set in sleeve, I would use garment/fashion tape for additional security.

I have tried making my own using a couple layers of fabric, but the plastic is really, really important. I...
40s or 50s enough for what? Remember there's no requirement or anything :) I think the clutch and the smaller purse look very vintagey. The larger one looks more modern to me but in a classic way that I'm sure will work with most vintage styles. Good finds!
I think it'd actually look better using red (or white) for the belt, pocket and collar. I love when great design details are set off with fabric choice! This fabric is fantastic and your dress will be amazing I'm sure!
