I'm pretty sure that most Levi's LVC are made with Cone Mills fabric. You can also find bargains for LVC too...but I can guarantee you that the early adopters for the J. Crew jeans didn't pay $65. It's ok to admit you're cheap! ;-)

I don't know about the exact date of the "hammer loop", but there are tons of these work style jeans made in the 1940's and 1950's. I have a pair of jeans by Osh Kosh from the 1950's with the hammer loop that I bought for my wife...could be earlier though.
