They did do a stretch on it (did my head get fatter?) and it did drop the crown height about 1/4". While I like the hat, I feel that it looks more like an Optimo hat with this blocking than the Nostalgia. In my icon I'm wearing the same hat before it was sent off.
I don't really like the...
Looking over new hats, I saw the Groton by Stetson. I cannot find any post in Hats that covers this new item. The most comprehensive description is over at Dad's Hats:
Material: 100% Genuine Fur Felt (Luxurious Soft Silk Finish)
Center Dent Crown: 4 1/2", Downturn-Brim: 2 1/2" x 2 1/4"...
Be Aware (as in beware) that you can only get store credit if you are not happy with your purchase at Miller. You will have to pay all shipping to and fro as well. I am sure they are nice people, but the policy there is definitely mail-order unfriendly.

Nostalgia Back
Back from Optimo. New hat band and new binding on the brim. I asked them to put in a standard single dent with front pinch. They reblocked it for size as well.

Moving over a thread here. There has been much conversation in this thread about the Chatham -- which is not a Nostalgia. My upgrades to my Chatham arrived by post last night. Full pictures and discussion now up

To see the pictures wherein I turn a model production model hat into a more vintage looking piece.
While I would not recommend going out and buying a Chatham and then putting all the pretty ribbons on it as the cost with postage could put you in a $220 hat. However, if you bought the hat because you liked it and want to make it even better, this is a way to go.
The colors for this came...
As requested, a new thread to discuss the Chatham. My upgrades at Optimo made it home yesterday.
I began with the Chatham from bencrafthats.com that they customized with a 2 3/4" brim for a 40's look. Of course, it has that low crown and some complained on here that it was not proportional...

Here is a 19th century paper at Project Gutenberg on the chemistry of felting that was made for the British hatters.
Here is the money quote
On the whole, were I a hat manufacturer, I should prefer to buy my fur untreated by that nitric acid and mercury process previously referred to, and...
Stirling Leather for $148. Use the Stetson $10 coupon in the ad that is currently in rotation at the top of the FL header and you are at $138. Stirling ships any item over $75 for free. I'll be generous and toss in $2 to get to $140. lol
Thank you. I think that the good people at Stetson...

ahh, the numbers tell a different story. I pulled my birth year for comparison. A $140 hat (which is what you can buy a Chatham using current discounts) is in the range of a $12.00 hat. That just takes in the consumer price index.
There is another factor...
