Yes, I understand your thoughts on this. I am trying to decide what to do next, strictly follow the ways of the 1950s for interest or adapt. Do you have back or fob pockets in the trousers?
TT
You have some excellent suits which fit so well.
Have you carried the detail right through - one inside breast pocket, a ticket pocket, button fly and fob pocket - one back pocket optional or do you follow modern ways?
As you might expect for the period it confirms the British style of the 1950s and into the 1960s with just one inside breast pocket in the coat and one back pocket but plus a fob pocket for the trousers. High rise trousers of course for braces - very smart when new.
Two Types, would your son not pose? It would be interesting to see the detail and also how he gets on with the style of the day - pockets, does he use the fob pocket etc.? He must, for better or worse, have to wear 'current' styles for school etc., so a comparison would be interesting. It is...
I too was surprised at it having two pockets, unless the left one was a ticket pocket which was common throughout the 1950s, disappearing by the 1970s on RTW but now very much back in vogue on such things. On MTM and bespoke it has never really disappeared. The answer may well be as you surmise...
Thanks. it will be interesting to see him after the visit to the barbers.
Two breast pockets or breast pocket on the right and ticket pocket on the left?
Its a good suit for him and he looks very smart: His hair cut compliments the suit , did he get that to go with the suit or is that his normal cut?
Can he be persuaded to endure more photographs, back and front without the coat?
What pockets inside the coat at that date?
Do you have any more photographs of the inside of the coat or the trousers on (back and front) but without the coat? They might help point to its age/origin.
Interestingly for Canadian suits most have just three pockets in the trousers (not 4/5 associated with the USA) and many have just one inside pocket in the coats. A very English approach.
A valiant first attempt.
You are correct about the crotch area and I also think that the waist band looks unfinished without belt loops, adjusters and extension band. The onseam side pockets contribute to the blandness in this area.
