    My son's first suit

Indeed he is, is he willing to show the trousers front and rear to complete the set?

    Not quite!

Show us your 'vintage inspired' suits ....

It would certainly add to the visual authenticity and I must say try to use pockets in the way intended in the 1950s.

Show us your 'vintage inspired' suits ....

Yes, I understand your thoughts on this. I am trying to decide what to do next, strictly follow the ways of the 1950s for interest or adapt. Do you have back or fob pockets in the trousers?

Hideki Okisaka: Master '30s tailor !

Thanks for that, the left side to see what pockets he determined were correct for the period?

TT You have some excellent suits which fit so well. Have you carried the detail right through - one inside breast pocket, a ticket pocket, button fly and fob pocket - one back pocket optional or do you follow modern ways?

British Army 'Air Travel' suit - 1950s

As you might expect for the period it confirms the British style of the 1950s and into the 1960s with just one inside breast pocket in the coat and one back pocket but plus a fob pocket for the trousers. High rise trousers of course for braces - very smart when new.

    My son's first suit

Two Types, would your son not pose? It would be interesting to see the detail and also how he gets on with the style of the day - pockets, does he use the fob pocket etc.? He must, for better or worse, have to wear 'current' styles for school etc., so a comparison would be interesting. It is...

Hideki Okisaka: Master '30s tailor !

Did a photograph of the inside of the coat of this or any other Hideki Okisaka coat ever appear?

No, maybe time to invest in new?

    My son's first suit

I too was surprised at it having two pockets, unless the left one was a ticket pocket which was common throughout the 1950s, disappearing by the 1970s on RTW but now very much back in vogue on such things. On MTM and bespoke it has never really disappeared. The answer may well be as you surmise...

    My son's first suit

Thanks. it will be interesting to see him after the visit to the barbers. Two breast pockets or breast pocket on the right and ticket pocket on the left?

    My son's first suit

Its a good suit for him and he looks very smart: His hair cut compliments the suit , did he get that to go with the suit or is that his normal cut? Can he be persuaded to endure more photographs, back and front without the coat? What pockets inside the coat at that date?

Cream wool flannel suit (British 1930s?)

Do you have any more photographs of the inside of the coat or the trousers on (back and front) but without the coat? They might help point to its age/origin.

New lining fabric for a Harris Tweed jacket?

Good British coats will have a striped silk or satin lining for the sleeves, not cotton.

    Suits - Pre 1920

Interestingly for Canadian suits most have just three pockets in the trousers (not 4/5 associated with the USA) and many have just one inside pocket in the coats. A very English approach.

When is a suit or a blazer too worn to wear?

When I am tired of it - whether worn or otherwise.

    Piecing Together Solid-Colour Suits?

Never and the trousers you propose to compromise thus are nothing like the rest of the suit! Forget it.

    My First Trouser Project

A valiant first attempt. You are correct about the crotch area and I also think that the waist band looks unfinished without belt loops, adjusters and extension band. The onseam side pockets contribute to the blandness in this area.
