So, so true. I thought it was going to be a much better fight, given what I've seen from Clottey in past fights. Pacquiao is a buzz saw!! It was an amazing thing to watch...his offense was his best defense.
I started smoking a pipe about 6 months ago. Started with a $25 briar, then bought a $45 La Rocca. From there, I got a good deal on a used Aldo Velani, and picked up a Maestro de Paja estate pipe from Ebay. Let me tell you, the more expensive pipes are definitely better smokers, and also much...
I used to bake a lot of bread when living in Africa, experimenting with all different types. Don't have the time anymore, but my neighbor bakes his own bread every week. Sandwich bread, sourdough, italian, and hearty farmhouse styles...delicious! He makes pizza dough every Wednesday, too. We're...
Welcome, Dave E!
I'm new to the Lounge as well. I think you'll find it quite a nice place to visit, as I have. All 3 of your hats look great! I used to have the Christy's Foldaway in Burma as well, but sold it. I loved the look/shape of the hat, but was not fond of its flimsiness. A nice...
Hemingway the Boxer
Wow...Cheers to everyone who added their bits about Ernest and his love for boxing! I had heard the story of him acting as referee and throwing the towel out, but that's it. On another note, are there any other boxing fans out there? Its the only sport I follow and love...
JohnnyCanuck,
I'm not sure which Akubra color it is, since it was an Ebay buy and they didn't list it. It's a Dark Tannish color. I'll post some pics upon returning home from work today.
That's interesting...I was just talking about this subject with my coworker today. His Grandfather, from Upstate New York, fought in the Pacific theatre, ended up in Australia, where he met his soon-to-be wife. My coworker said, "If it wasn't for The War, I wouldn't be here today." Interesting...
No, the brim came completely flat. Makes me think of a witches hat, or scarecrow or something. I'm also not used to the width of the brim, it'll take some getting used to!
Hey thanks to all for the tips...I guess water is the solution! I can't imagine waiting till camping season to wear it, so I'll figure out a way over the weekend or something. This will be my all around camping, fishing, outdoorsman hat. In my Avatar picture, I'm wearing a Christys Foldaway, but...
Hey folks,
I just received my new Akubra Cattleman in the mail...an Ebay win from someone in Australia...I love it immediately! BUT...the brim is super stiff, and basically has no shape to it at all. It looks like a saucer, I guess. So, can anyone school me on how to break it in, shape it...
Well, I just discovered this thread...and am wondering if Scary MC has made it back in one piece! He said he needed to reach Cape Town by March 5th, so let's hear it!
Being someone who has LIVED in Africa, I am very interested to know how his journey was. My experience there certainly changed...
Thanks! I'm trying to get more comfortable wearing fedoras on a regular basis. Its tricky in this super casual society, especially in woodsy Vermont. I usually end up putting on my newsboy instead. Anyway, here are some more pics of the Stetson.

My first hat pic
Okay, I tried to post this Friday, but had trouble, so I'm trying again today. This is my first hat pic...its a vintage Royal Stetson...that's all I know about it. If anyone can tell me more(i.e. style, possible decade, etc.), I'd be much obliged!
My very first fedora style hat purchase was a Bailey stingy brim wool pinstripe number....I loved it for awhile. But then I got my first vintage fur felt, and knew I'd never go back. The wool hats just aren't the same. The brim doesn't snap like real felt, and I don't really trust any hats that...
