Roberto Isola: a great guy with a great pencil mustache! I first met him years ago through Ben McGinty. (Do you know Ben, seabass? He used to be one of Southern California's best vendors of vintage menswear.)
Not sell a lot of tickets, but enough. By Hollywood standards, "The Artist" was not an expensive film to make. The Weinstein Company has spent a chunk of money promoting it ... but even then, its worldwide box office take has made up for the costs.
U.S. grosses thus far (about $28...

But even the French can't deny that "The Artist"s musical score was quite good!
This little piece perfectly conveys the fantasy of breezy '20s Hollywood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glpKknHtisI&feature=related
And here's the music from the opening scene's 'movie-within-a-movie', the...
... and the French realize this. On their own news website blogs ("Le Monde", "Le Figaro", etc.), they're complaining that Hollywood would only give the 'Best Picture' award to a French film that isn't an intellectual masterpiece, was not filmed in France but in Los Angeles, and doesn't have...
Not great photos, but the best I could find. Same with the tuxedos: they have their problems, but they're better than any of the others seen at the Oscars last night.

I won't post any more of these comments. Y'all get...
The comments continue to flow in. Who knew that a movie as innocuous as "The Artist" could inspire such hatred?
"If I wanted to see a silent movie, I would rent an original."
"BIack & White AND silent, too!? Isn't that cute? The Hollywood kids have found themselves an antique in the...

On one very popular Internet news website, "The Artist"s Oscar wins have given rise to nearly 900 comments, most of them highly negative. Some samples:
“You pay $8 to sit in a movie theater with no sound .....great, I get to listen to people sneezing and coughing...what next...no picture...

This article's title should be renamed "Stating the Bloody Obvious": http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2012/02/oscars-2012-artist-director-michel-hazanavicius.html
Merci beaucoup, Paul. Did you know that, when I was a kid, I used to spend summers in Belgium? My mother's family owned and lived in Kasteel Cleydael, which is in between Hemiksem and Aartselaar, near Antwerp. It's now a golf club...
