Its doable with a shoulder rig I'd say but Im basing this off of my Colt Combat Commander which is a shortened 1911. BTW if you move to the states make sure you choose a state that has CCW, not all states do, there are still a few controlled by fascists.
From personal experience I'd say horse is way tougher, especially over time. The only cowhide I've seen that is close is Langlitz heavy cowhide, that stuff could be mistaken for horse. When I say tougher Im talking about abrasion resistance.

Just get a pair of custom made Wesco's, not sure about the high arches but if Wesco cant accomodate for that you could always get inserts from Heel-the -Pain, which are made for plantar fasciatus. Also Carolina boots has fantastic arch support in their boots.
i use it on my langlitz, I doubt they would recommend it if it wasnt good. I'd say they know a thing or two about leather. Even pecard's contains petroleum distillates.
