1930s belted back leisure/sporty suit jacket top found

I've said it before, but for that to happen, skilled labor has to be cheap. We probably won't see such an era again.

Music suggestions 20's 30's big band & jazz?

The Orchestra of Indian Hill, Massachusetts in 2009 giving an all-out swing-with-strings rendition of Paul Whiteman's Itchola. Kickoff at 0:45 after a brief address from conductor Bruce Hangen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J3uqU1Al9Q And here's what it sounded like back in the day.

1935 Aviation Goods: Karl Ort Catalog

Thanks to VLJ member bjoy, you can view a 1935 catalog from Karl Ort of York, Penna., one of the premier mail-order suppliers of aircraft parts and aviation supplies. Karl handled everything from altimeters to zip jackets and his copy is written in a confidence-inspiring first-person tone...

Have you ever gotten into a heated argument with a "tailor"?

Forgive me if I seem to trade in stereotypes here,..but mostly today, you're stuck with people from Asia or third world nations who have a rough sense of fashion but no sense of style, and who were trained very strictly back home. Especially in Asia, there is very little concept of personal...

To bi-swing back or not to bi-swing back?

Buyer beware, of course. Many Navy-type jackets have only one elastic band. Many more have bands that have gone slack, and it's quite a job replacing them.

To bi-swing back or not to bi-swing back?

In my experience it's necessary for every jacket to be comfortable. Swingback or no. ;) Seriously tho, I find that a swingback isn't strictly necessary as long as there's a decent width to the back panel between the armholes. Another option, not often seen by itself, is the back-of-arm gusset...

How Many Fedoras did you see today?

Not fedora related, but I just visited Costco in Minneapolis and was surprised to be one of maybe 10 guys with newsy caps. Something strange is afoot in the City of Lakes.

Near Moffat, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, 1935. Forensic experts Drs. John Glaister, l, and J.C.H. Brash, m, with an unidentified gentleman near the scene where the bodies of Mrs. Isabella Ruxton and her housemaid Mary Rogerson were discovered. Mrs. Ruxton's husband, Dr. Buck Ruxton, was convicted...

1933 Dated pinstripe double breasted suit

It's named to a Dr. T. Kihara. That's a Japanese surname - can't have been many Japanese doctors in 1933 Chicago.

    Downton Abbey - I'm hooked

That's a concession to the times. There was no place for a woman of the uppercrust to be a rebel in the 20s unless she made the break and went full bohemian. Marrying an Irish Republican newspaperman and going to Dublin wasn't going to give her that option. She put her rebellion on hold for the...

us authentic flying tiger jacket: lousy quality

The A-2 fanship is all-or-nothing. US-A aren't nothing, but they're not all. The 3 things I'd do differently would be the tall fit (don't lose it, just offer a regular fit too), the twill linings, and the spongy horse.
