Thank you ... I believe now I have misjudged you. I offer you my apologies for my strong words and hope we can move forward. I come to the Fedora Lounge for fun and to learn and share.
You know lots of stuff about flight jackets ... perhaps you could have shared that earlier in the thread..it would have been a nicer way to make a point. This is the first I am aware of some flight jacket controversy. Never heard of this before. I enjoy styles from the past. Historical accuracy...
Oh lighten up .. this is not a scholarly quarterly. This is just a forum where people come to share their thoughts and enjoy vintage clothing and such. But if you insist on playing silly about it so be it. I will stop using the descriptive terminology: "a garment issued in the '20s and '30s, to...
Hmm...I never really thought of it that way...I guess for me it does not matter whether it is real or fictional..it is a question of whether I like it or not...and I do like the style of that jacket a lot. I prefer it over the A2's or the G1's styling. In the end whether it is real or not does...
I do not have any photos of the authentic. There are plenty of repro photos as the 440 G-8 is sold by several sources on the internet, namely US Wings, The Cockpit, Lostworlds. If you find some photos of the real thing it would be great to see them. I love seeing the original inspirations.
That is a beauty .. very similar to the G8's issued in the 1920's and 1930's to US Naval Aviators and it looks like the inspiration for the Indiana Jones Adventurer jacket seen in all the movies... that is very nice indeed. What a fantastic find. :eusa_clap
Harpplayergene...that hat has got a Jed Clampet thing going with those holes and it looks nicely broken in now. :)
PS: I mean that as a compliment and not as a "meanament"
I have heard the same thing Harp player and that was why I asked about it. It would be interesting to find out if that was a common thing and if it was, when it went out of fashion.
That is a fantastic coat. Given the way it drapes and flows I figure it is made with a wool gabardine material. I had one in the 1980's and it had the same look. The coat I had had a large inverted pleat at the back that allowed the coat to open larger as needed. Another important feature of...
I think that any waterproofing is unneeded for a fur felt hat. I have worn all my hats in snow and rain and never had an issue with them getting wet. They shed water fine and when wet dry out fine. :)
That is one fine watch .. where I live up in Winnipeg, Canada you will only see the general Seiko watches. I have read a couple of articles about the Grand Seiko watch line in WatchTime magazine and both were very positive write-ups on the line. Until that point I never knew about the Grand...
Yea .. I have spent a lot on watches over the past 20 years. I used to set aside a certain amount of money every year just for watches. I don't any more. I am not into cars or travel like some people so it was easy to set aside the money I wanted to spend. Also,I have a different attitude...
Hi MArk ..Interesting question and good call on that. I do not know the real answer but have been told the following by other watch people over on timezone.com. It is a standard practice in the watch industry to substitute the IV with IIII when using Roman markers on a dial. It seems to be for...
I collect watches along with hats. Hats are nothing cost wise compared to how much I have spent on watches in my lifetime. I have also become interested in leather craft and want to reach a skill level where I can make my own jackets and the like. Still this cost will never come close to what my...
Hi Nick .. here are three vests I have made from jackets I had around. The original idea of converting a jacket to a vest came to me after I could not find a vest that I was happy with. The first was the most complicated and needed a pro's skill with a sewing machine .. my tailor also converted...
I have a goatskin A2 that is 20 years old and it still looks like only a few years old. Washed goatskin will give you a shortcut to the worn in look while still being very durable. It all depends on the look you want from the jacket ... new or old and broken in. Cheers
