I do not wear dress watches myself but do admire the Cartier line. I like the Ballon Bleu from a design perspective. The integrated crown guard is a unique way to protect the crown from accidental bumps while achieving a unique design cue. I would only consider the large version of the watch...
Open Range .. great performances from the big names: Duval and Costner. Enjoyed the performances of a good number of Canadian actors who filled in the smaller parts as well. It was filmed in Alberta, Canada I believe. It is very similar to Montana cow country
To paraphrase Nemo .. an old tiger is at his most dangerous when it knows the end is near.
Magnoli has re-created the Quartermain vest but for a fairly hefty price. I purchased a Indiana Jones jacket from Todd's and had the sleeves removed and that is my own version of an adventurers vest. I...
A few years ago when I first ventured onto eBay I purchased a had identical to the one you have there with one small difference. I paid $44.00 :eusa_booh plus shipping to Canada from the U.S. I'd like to think you got a great deal rather than I got hosed...you got a great hat for a great...
Portolan no laugher..instead a thumbs up for you
Your western was an excellent choice. The size of the hat suits you well and the color is a nice shade. Enjoy!! :eusa_clap
I remember buying my first Akubra and I thought it was mis-sized. I wear a 57 and it wore like a 58. One wearing for a couple of hours was all it took to size itself into a great fit ..... Akubras have a wire in the sweatband and I think that the shrinking has to do with that wire moving tighter...
Great thread for us watch hounds
Here is my favorite watch. It is my Dad's Rolex Oysterdate circa 1969. He passed away 16 years ago and this and his Elco pocket watch keep him close to me everyday.
I agree wholeheartedly! The Connery look in the LOEG is created in a classic "Great White Hunter" style by the costumer and the vest looks like it has its own stories to tell. The costumer created the character of Allan Quartermain with his own look and Connery made him bigger than life and the...
I am up in Winnipeg, Canada about 40 miles north of North Dakota and we have the 4 different seasons. I pretty much follow the seasonal weather. It is usually straw in summer and felt in fall. winter and spring. I agree with the no rules guys..do what you feel you need to do. We just had our...
Thanks Pablo... you have a real beauty there- You just do not see many of those around in that good condition. I read an article in this month's "Cowboys and Indians" magazine about collecting old cowboy hats and their values. A two dollar hat can fetch +300 plus dollars. It has a photo of a...
I am biased on this question. I was taught by my father that color black was out except in formal wear. I can give you no logical reason for his insisting on this when I was first starting out to wear suits but that was his strong advice to me. I have followed it to this day and react...
That is a fantastic old western. :eusa_clap The versatility of that hat shows in the different looks it gives. Just curious, how tall is the crown and how wide is the brim? It looks big. Cheers
:eusa_clap
That tricks my eye into seeing the hat as very dark navy ... could be my monitor but it still looks fantastic. I have a black fedora which is a re-blocked and cut down Akubra Kiandra that is going to get a new navy 5/8' ribbon inspired by yours.
I was told by a retailer in Canada that David Morgan is also the North American distributor of Akubra. It runs parallel operations here .. one wholesaling to re-sellers and the other retailing to the public. Perhaps it has not offered the Bushman at a good price to the re-sellers of Akubra in N.A.
