When I attended Scuole Medie (Junior High) everything even slightly different from the norm aroused millions of stupid and gratuitous comments.
Years after University, I found I can go to public offices dressed as a ninja or a medieval knight, and nobody would care.
(No, I don't normally dress...
Well I found one (old) image from Argentina
and one from Spain
I'm quite sure the spanish one is military issued (I've seen same model up for auctions) and it should have an half-belt if I'm not mistaken; it also a deviation from the european norm of golden buttons.
One of the...
German examples:
DDR:
strikingly similar to WWII ones, as curiously was the case for many DDR uniforms;
while this should be a Bundesmarine one:
a more simply looking one that doesn't create suggestions to the past.
Well, if some of you guys feels like contributing to the thread, I'd...
Some italian ones:
for some reason I can't find many images of italian peacoats.
During the last years of conscription, they were rarely issued (I think, mostly to NCOS): I remember meeting a great number of sailors dressed in trench coats perfectly identical to my Army one, save the...
With permission of Mr Peacoat (whom I salute)
I'd like to post some pictures of military peacoats from the Navies of the world.
I'd hope to create a visual reference for ours opinions, comparisons, and discussions.
I start with some french examples:
I think stripes are for ranking :)
Great style!
The photo somehow reminds me of Anthony Quinn, but can't say exactly why... probably I've seen some picture of him wearing a beret somewhere...
anyway, it exudes personality :)
:)
on the other hand, just put the guy on the right in a nice hat; in a suit; and finally get rid of the goatee, that doesn't serve him well;
well, wouldn't that be a completely different impression?
I went to a marriage (open air) this summer. In the afternoon: sun was b-u-r-n-i-n-g! The only male people with hat, were me, and an old guy: a "real" hat wearer, I think. I'm just beginning to become "real" in this sense, as someone who wears hats (real hats) simply because it's natural for him...
"Earning" a peacoat? Aren't they issued? Besides, I think to peacoats as civilian "work" clothing, adopted by the military, and not the other way round.
I can assure you that in Italy peacoats haven't any particular military "vibe", nor are they perceived as exclusive of the military Navy (even...
Thank you Heinrich!! :)
I'll follow your advice and wear it! It will provide me with shelter from sun&rain, and some style :)
Enjoy your Elosegui! Ciao!! :)
:)
I'll take the advice and wear a Barbisio (I don't own a Borso... yet! ;) )
(beret and trench reminds me of an italian comic character as well ;) )
thank you Paddy!!
As a side note, one thing that I like of military clothing (this is one of the few items that I actually wear) is that it fits as military clothing, i.e.... it fits!
High armholes and everything. Sleeves are a just a little (a little) snug when used with most "civilian" coats underneath, but...
My trenchcoat (ex italian army)
(I'm probably the worst photographer in the whole world, I know::. besides, I have to use a real camera and not my cell phone!)
ciao!
Shorts were strictly for non-adults in Italy in the "golden era", and "when I was wearing shorts" is still a byword for "when I was a little boy";
then again, during summer everyone is in shorts.
Well, everyone except me ;)
I've been grown quite conservatively, and I simply can't wear them in...
Weird as it may sound, I consider hasidic men as an inspiration in style: classic (if sometimes demodè) clothing, sober colors... and hats!
Them, and those "plain people" of christian extraction (amish, mennonites... I even heard of "plain catholics" living somewhere!), but here these "plain...
What about this?
still wearable, or already just too big?
( I think that given its size and diameter this beret would qualify as a "medium" large, but I'm small headed ;) and on the short side :) ...)
ciao!
Excuse my curiosity, but what's wrong with the coat? It doesn't look bad, to me anyway. As Marc Chevalier suggested, it does indeed look as a former hassidic frock coat, so maybe it really has been modified (e.g. reduced from double to single breasted, or changed from right-over-left to...
I wore a B15 (or was it a MA1? but I think I remember the mouton collar) as a young teenager (too young and too nerdy to be mistaken for anything else ;) )
and a M65 during last years of High School- first years of University;
but M65 in Italy did not have a clear military association (italian...
