That's interesting but I when i firstly saw this thread I tried an almost blind browsing on chinese sites (armed with automatic translators and all...) and ended up finding these same jackets... I guess they will cost a lot less if purchased from there.
Another possible source could be Albania...
Hi Shohei!!
Have you received the ordination as a monk? I definitely feel "home flavor" in your photo (I grew up near a Soto Zen temple :) used to go there for zazen)
ciao!!
I'm on the short side ;) but the father of the father of my grandfather was 197 cm, which should be like 6' 5 and something.
In the XIXth century in Italy, he should be quite a sight.
Don't know were he got his "tall" genes from: as far as I know, on paternal side we are generic italians with...
Wow!!
I'm amazed: this solves one question I was wondering to ask.
These "parkas, overcoat type" were a must have in Italy in '70s for leftists, hippies and the like. They took wearing them because they were very cheap and already popular with truck drivers, dock workers etc., so they had a...
Navin!! You indian paisano!! ;)
(in the dialectal italian sense of "friend, fellow from the country" ;) )
the jacket is great and you look cool in it, as usual!! best of luck for your knee, keep us informed!
and thank you for the info about MakeYourOwnJeans, much appreciated!
ciao!! :)
That would be greatly appreciated as it will satisfy my curiosity about real RN peacoats!! :)
But I'm sure everything you'll decide will be great.
Ciao!!
Mayserwegener, if you want to have a lot of free drinking, wear one of those hats and come in Italy during one "former" Alpini reunion (there's no such thing as a "former Alpino", obviously... you are Alpino for life) :)
Alpini are noted for their drinking skills ;) and their reunions had the...
How are Cervo and Bantam related?
Bantam used to make the officer, finest version of the Alpini (mountain troops) hat, which was (probably still is) called simply "a Bantam" by Alpini themselves.
PS
The Alpini hat is a not-so-distant relative of the american campaign hat; after being issued...
Just browsing around the Nakatashoten repro site:
Army-air force (I guess)
http://www.nakatashoten.com/japan-riku/jr-31.html
http://www.nakatashoten.com/japan-riku/jr-242.html
Navy:

on the site there are also repro full-lenght...
I'd be very curious to learn about japanese flight jackets. I've looked on a very well known japanese site of militaria/repros (Nakata Shoten) and it looks that japanese pilots were issued jackets, too, and not only one-piece suits; and it seems to be some difference between Army and Navy.
But...
Never been a huge Tintin's fan; anyway, I feared that the adaptation would be worse than what I see in the trailers. Changing two-dimensional, cartoonesque characters in something more realistic isn't easy task.
As for the names, in Italy we used the original french names: cultural proximity, I...
Hi Navin!
Superlative photos as usual! :)
Is that your "New Amsterdam" police jacket? ;)
I had the same problem with a vertical crease on a leather coat (odd jacket) I own. I ended up living with that, as I wasn't sure to try some experiment, and it seemed to bother only me (all people I asked...
I guess it all depends on what you mean by "western movie".
If it's a movie that's set in the Old American West, in a particular moment in history, then spaghetti westerns are westerns, full stop.
I also already pointed out that Leone was greatly more accurate in reconstructions than most people...
For me, as an italian, it has always been crystal clear that Leone's "spaghetti westerns" (besides being based on japanese movies- at least most of them) weren't actually "westerns" at all.
They feel too much... well, italian. Or at least, latin in a larger sense (Latium is in Italy, I remember...
Probably it's something that has to do with individual perception of cold.
Many times I've read of people, here, living in colder climates than mine, that "don't get use" from things I normally wear in the italian winter: without sweating, and with consistent layering underneath...
one of my...
A side note on the diameter of military berets:
in Italy, in the days of conscription (not so long ago) recruits were issued black berets (unless you were in some particular corps like Alpini or Bersaglieri etc. that had its own peculiar headdress).
These berets were "military" and not true...
;)
I'm italian, and I assure you that us italians can take jokes on our past military performances (and I know there are many ;) ) without feeling insulted if they are made in a good way and conscious that they are.. well, jokes :)
no problem with this. I think our french cousins can take jokes...
This should be, to my understanding, a Dutch Royal Navy (Koninglijke Marine, correct me if I'm wrong) peacoat, or "pyjekker"
about the DDR peacoat's quality, I trust Trotsky: DDR stuff seemed to be quite "cheap"...
oth I've seen in person french and italian military peacoats, and I say they...
