No they don't look perfect but for 40% of the people there it was their first event. The airsoft guys get better every time they come out, just l reenactors. they are just a couple years behind, but catching up fast.

D-Day reenacment

A 100 person combined blankfire and airsoft event, the largest of its kind that we know of.
Spitfire, after thinking about it this is what I would rather say: maybe I am overreacting to your communication style. To me it comes of as ordering and lecturing, maybe from the beginning you didn’t mean it that way and maybe I overacted. I am willing to discuss reenacting and WWII, etc, etc...
You are right. I should have only responded to people asking questions that wanted to make decisions after learning, as opposed to people who decided before knowing anything based only on their prejudices.
Once again though, you tell people what to do. I would think a gentleman would let...
You can believe or not believe anything you want (thank the allies for that)
You make numerous assumptions without any facts. I own Triumph of the Will, so your premise that I need to see it is flawed. I would consider it mandatory viewing for anyone who either A: wants to understand the...
Yes, we fight specific battles against specific U.S. units. The 101 airborne and 82nd airborne are probably the most written about US unit of the war. The 101 fought FJR6 in all of the major campaigns (Normandy, Market Garden, Battle of the Bulge) making FJR6 a very logical unit to portray...
I didn’t even think to answer the question of why a specific unit, and especially why this unit.
FJR6 fought the 101 in Normandy, Holland and somewhat in the bulge. Between FJR6 and FJR5 (who ended up fighting mostly 82nd) you cover the FJ units that fought the major battles against their...
I did not say you are uneducated. I said you were uneducated about what we do and why, and I stand by that statement. As far as your education and experiences concerning WWII I don’t presume to judge what they are.
Ignoring WWII happened because it was horrible, which of course it was, will...
Also you will see a distinct lack of swastikas in our pictures. You can find some very small ones, but that is it. For multiple reasons. For one, once again we are not trying to BE Nazi’s, we are reenacting a Fallschirmjager unit, none of us actually believe we are WWII Fallschirmjagers. Two, it...
I understand the statement about weight. Some of those pictures are of us mixed with other FJ reenactors. My organization (axis and allies) requires current height/weight standards be met by bylaws. We feel its the only respectful thing to do.
I know why they were killed, but then again I study this part of history. Context is what makes facts into knowledge, and it's takes a string of facts constructed together to make that context and knowledge. A single fact is not an argument or a conclusion, it is merely a fact in isolation.
we did think about it a lot, we were officially invited by the French Government to be there and they were very happy we were there. Ever French person I met wanted to talk to us. Old French men came to show us their photo albums of how they went on to be french paras after having been around...
I could post in any thread on this board with “a fascination of times past - and a fascination of heroisme, power, war and ...dare I say it?...hats”
Guns are fun, more fun than hats IMO.
“Normal” reenacting, if there is such a thing, is VERY much about specific units and organizations. Down to names, paybooks, letters from home, the whole deal. That is the part that makes it living history.
The motivation is to create a suspension of belief that allows a person to time travel...
Couple simple answers, you cannot understand yourself without understanding your enemy. In many ways your enemy defines you. Sun Tzu had some things to say about that.
On top of that U.S. modern military tactics were very much derived from WWII German tactics (see above) to truly understand...
Actually the organization in Germany we are associated with is officially recognized by the German government as a veterans association and does living history there along with veterans funeral and reunions. The Fallschirmjager reunion I attended had official military representatives from over...
