Just lookin' for a little something for my Pilot's Kit

I used a modern issued one as they are the same on my WWII coat. The problem was they had different degrees of finish. Most insignia companies have them.

The Occult, are you a believer?

It's called Necromancy as a Christian I know it's very real. I avoid it at all costs but to be truthful I'm always ready for a Ghost story.

    Show us your Guns!

I've seen a similar rifle over here at a Show once. In the 70s there was a company that was converting No.4s to look like the No.5 Jungle Carbines. Yours looks like a No 3 with a No.5 Jungle Carbine barrel on it. The Magazine is either for a .308 or an after market .303 . Enfields are fun rifles...

    identify this film clip

British AB uniforms were almost a direct copy of the Fallschirmjagers. I read that somewhere eons ago. There was one Operation I forget which one where both Brits and Germans used the same DZ. They both mistook each other for their fellow troopers. The Dennison Smock that the Brits used had a...

    identify this film clip

The thrower appears to ba a Brit. It looks like his helmet is the " Turtle shell " model which appeared around Normandy. It also appears if the thrower has a '44 pattern canteen flopping on his left hip. The German is dressed as if he were in Garrison. If it's not staged it might be Normandy or...

    Fishing for Machineguns

That's true my friend has a Arisaka rifle that doesn't even have a butt plate. It is almost comical but the Arisaka's receiver is one of the strongest of all the bolt rifles. That really suprised me I figured it was the Mauser. The late war Mausers had the laminated stocks due to allied...

    Fishing for Machineguns

I think that gun above the Beretta model 38/42 might be a Japanese Nambu type 92 AKA "woodpecker". The other appears to be weapons taken off of an AC. Japanese weapons were extremely crude even more so than the Russian.

    Fishing for Machineguns

Thompson sub of course, in the back is the Japanese Nambu LMG type 97 or 96 I forget. The small Mortar is the Japanese "Knee" Mortar. The Marines would mistakenly put that mortar on the knee or leg and fire it. It was a bad name as it broke many a Marines leg. The name was because of it's...

    What Field jacket is this??

It is probably an M-41 Jumpsuit Jacket. If the pockets aren't bellowed but patch pockets and the belt has a snap it is. If it's an original it is worth BIG bucks. These were used in North Africa there are photos of Paratroopers of the 509th wearing these. These were rare in WWII and coveted by...

BBC Confirms Segregated Liberation of Paris in 1944

A great book I read about 20 years ago was "The Devil's Guard or Body Guard". It's been out of print for years and copies are pricy. It talked about France using the Legion to reclaim Indo-China. Many were "Militarists" from the German Army mostly SS and Fallschirmjagers. Considered War...

BBC Confirms Segregated Liberation of Paris in 1944

Ironic about the Free French. Their best fighting force to this day were the French Foreign Legion. Every conflict France fought has been with the Legion. They were mostly composed of non French personel (read non white).

    AAF Decal - A2

Wow that's beautiful ! Makes a guy not want to wear a Seat Pack. I read some where they sewed the " Blood Chits " inside the jackets instead of the back.

    Back Yard Find

Check the headstamp on the back for a date. There was newsclip years ago about an area in San Diego. This area was a site for a new Housing complex. The the hills around this complex were filled with unexploded ordinance. It seems they built this complex on an old target range. They had to get...

    WWII combat fatigues question

None were Camoflaged, some were theater made (Pacific theater). These were usually made by rigger/tailors. The Americans really did not dabble in Camo like the Germans. In the Normandy some troops were issued Camo uniforms like the Marines in the Pacific. They were fired on by friendly troops...

    AAF Decal - A2

Reminds me of my Airplane Modeling days. I used to have lots of water, a puddle really on the area I would transfer to. I would make sure that the decal was detached from the backing. I would then float the decal on to the puddle. I would then carefully blot the excess water and air bubbles out...

    South Pacific Historians/researchers

mclmm thanks for that info. My dad remembers the Dutch soldiers running to his house asking him to hide them. The Japanese then showed up capturing them. My Dad vividly remembers the Japanese raiding his 'fridge. They then sat in his front yard drinking my Dads " Liberated " Cokes. The thing my...

    Candy Cigarettes?

I also agree with Tango Yankee. I also grew up in the 60s under similar circumstances. I chewed ate candy cigarettes (there were 2 types gum and chalky) but never smoked cigs. On the other hand I smoke Cigars. This is probably due to the fact I also chewed bubble gum Cigars. I remember going to...

Secret footage of Australian Z Force Commandos in Training...

Great can't wait to see it . Last month I bought the movie with Mel Gibson in it. Until then I have never heard of that special unit. In the movie they have silenced "Grease Guns" which is neat.
