DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

I remember when Kung Fu came on once a month back in the 70s. It was a big event in my house. My Dad and brother would get all excited. I liked John in the "Long Riders" and later in "Old West Tech" on the History Channel.

    Show us your Guns!

I've owned both the SKS (Russian) and the Mini 14 but sold them. SKSs are great fun and WERE cheap to shoot. They can really eject that brass (steel) and have some neat accessories . The Mini I loved but at the time (80s) the barrel was too light for me. They have corrected them I heard (Youtube...

    Reenactment Videos....

Camp Roberts I love that place. The last time I was playing there was in 2000. Sadly too old to take the dives anymore .

    Show us your Guns!

I've seen repro Heat Shields and Bayonets but I forgot where. The Bayonets are easy enough its just forking out the 70.00-100.00 for them. It's funny the Germans in WWI thought the Shotgun barbaric. I guess their Saw back bayonets, Flamethrowers and Poison Gas was OK.

    Show us your Guns!

The Shotgun I've been drooling over for years is the Winchester Model 97. I heard the Chinese reprod those. I haven't heard the verdict on those though. It would seem sacreligious though.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Coke Machines with the Deposit Bottle racks on the sides. I remember as a Box Boy at Alpha-Beta (remember that chain ?) counting out bottles for refund.

    Beloved Comic Books--The Uncanny X-Men

Mad Magazine ! It's kind of a comic book I guess. What kid in the late 60s early 70s didn't read it. I also bought their little paper backs. I liked the folding back page they always had. Who can forget Alfred E. Neuman ! I have a rubber mask of him I bought 20 years ago. I used the mask to...

    Beloved Comic Books--The Uncanny X-Men

I was into Sgt Rock, The Haunted Tank, Archies, Fantastic Four and Spiderman. 12 cents for a Comic in the late 60s. A Quarter bought me a double dip Ice Cream and a Comic at Sav-on. If I was not in a Comic book mood 5 rolls of "Butter Rum" Live Savers candy. A can of Soda (no CRV) and a Candy...

    Show us your Guns!

I read at one time the Ithaca 37 were favored by the SEALs for the bottom ejection. I believe it was the 37 that lacks a disconnector (it's been years since I held one). That enables one to hold the trigger while cycling the pump.

Is DXing A Thing Of The Past?

I'm not a radio head but would like to be one day when I have time. What I heard was to hang on to radios. Satellites can go down and I read somewhere even the humble CB will come in handy.

    Hallowed Ground

I visited a Graveyard on Texel Island in Holland years ago. My Brother-in-law showed me where they buried Georgian Soldiers. These Russian were conscripted to fight in one of the "Ost" battalions. When the war was going badly for the Germans the Georgians rebelled. The Germans proceeded to mop...

    Civil Defense Helmet Refinishing

Since were talking about CD what's the story on the Gas Masks. I have 2 or 3 I forget that I bought years ago. I used one for Re-enacting the early war scenario. They differed slighty from the Army "Training Model". What is the rarity factor on them.

    All Clear.

All Clear ! Reminds me of a few years back after 9-11. I was sitting at a light waiting for the green when I heard a siren. It seems GG was testing some old sirens I think. It was the type you hear on a 1950s Sci Fi. One could barely hear it over the din of the cars. I guess it was loud in the...

    Secret Passageways

Being a "Stooge" fan it seems it was a common back then. I remember an episode of the "Addams Family" where Pugsly was lost in a secret room. He seemed content though as he found some of Uncle Festers comic books. Now a days it would be real creepy. Too many creeps with Dungeons are being found out.

New WW2 re-enactor magazine coming soon!

I hear you P-51 ! The way I got into it was shopping at a Surplus Store in the early 80s. I was looking at racks of M-41 field jackets  when a guy came up and started talking. He said he was in a Re-enactment group and I should join them. He gave me a copy of "The Front" a CHG magazine. It...

    Bitter-sweet memories of Berlin Airlift

I remember reading about the "Candy Bomber" who dropped candy on little parachutes. Years later my Boss would do the same in Viet-Nam but out of a Chopper.

    Show us your Guns!

Speaking of reloading, I remember friends laughing at me when I scrounged their unwanted brass. I broke a decapping pin after around my 1500th 9mm brass. I still have about 1000 to go and I don't even shoot 9mm anymore. I figure it will be good trading stock.

    Show us your Guns!

I love to shoot but the problem is ammo is going way too high. Ironically old surplus ammo is easier to get than newly manufactured. I just saw .223 /5.56 for a dollar a round ! Too crazy so I'm hoarding my stash till times get better.
