Not really alcoholic: A good lemon, lime & bitters. So many places now just can't make them - they use cheap lemonade (really Sprite) and syrupy lemon & lime flavoured cordial instead of juice or juice-based cordial concentrate. Yuck!
Alcoholic: I'm a plain gal who prefers plain drinks...
Isn't it funny... Back then he was the weedy nerd getting hassled by the school jock, and today he's a similar size, or bigger, than many boyband members and Calvin Klein models.... :p
yeah, Chad, I can see that! You just have more hair than Bogey... ;)
Actually, in his youth, my Grandad bore a resemblance to Humphrey Bogart, just a little darker and heavier in features. Well, as long as he didn't open his mouth - the SE Scottish accent would have given it away. :p...
Thanks guys! Pity I'm an early '40s kind of a gal... ;)
I found another one of her I think looks a bit like me:
Thanks, it took a bit of hunting, but I found of pic of her:
I can see a bit of a resemblance there too. :) Thanks for your suggestions everyone! :)
New Zealand, if it's a waterproof flight jacket. :p
The North Island if you like sun, rain, flooding, and earthquakes. The South Island if you like sun, snow, flooding, and drought. :D
Not to mention that whole starving-in-the-depression thing... :p
I think that apart from the fact that back then you could actually make a living from manual labour (instead of needing an undergraduate degree to be a filing clerk), the main point is that food was natural (covered in...
Here's a photo of my Poppa, Herbert Exley, Private, 4861615, Leicestershire Regiment.
Poppa (Herb, as he was known) enlisted in early 1940, and headed to the Middle East via Cape Town, Siwa, Sidi Barrani, BugBug, Sollum, Capuzzo, Bardia, Gambut, Tobruk, Crete, and then on through to...
Well, I have no idea... My friend, who is a wag, said she didn't know who I looked like, but personality-wise I resemble Sam Spade. I affectionately told her that should she care to contribute a second comment of that nature, I would make like Spade and slap her face, and she'd like it. ;)...
In the spirit of recent posts, I thought I'd ask, and see if I got any bites:
If you had to name the Golden Era celebrity you most resemble (either physically, or in attitude/personality), who would it be?
And now the kicker; I'm still trying to think of mine... ;)
Yeah, here in NZ they needed something to up the Burger King franchise against its competition. They play on the "good old fashioned flame-grilled taste" slogan here, and I guess they figured that, to kiwis, old-fashioned American burgers means "1950s juke joint". So that's what BK looks like...
We've had roll calls for people in Texas, the Mid-West, South-East, New Yawk... So I thought it was about time to call the non-North-Americans out of hiding.
Hands up everybody who lives in the other 130-odd million square kilometres of Earth! :)
Me: I'm in Hamilton - Province of Waikato...
When I was in high school (mumble years ago), they were re-doing the uniform from the old '70s model. There was a lot of support in my year to bring back hats, gloves, ties (it was a girls only school)... But we were turned down because it was "an unnecessary expense for parents". :(
I like quotes by the Great W. C. - Fields, that is...
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it."
"I've been drunk only once in my life. But that lasted for twenty-three years."
"Never try to impress a woman, because if you...
My favourite Parkerisms:
"If all the girls from the Yale Prom were laid end to end - I wouldn't be surprised."
"If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to."
"Brevity is the soul of lingerie."
"This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It...
My condolences Paddy. I hope things even out for you soon, and that the next few weeks go as smoothly as possible. Your Auntie looked like a very lovely person from the photo. My thoughts are with you and your family just now.
My apologies if she was teetotal, but here's one to send her...
Aw, I like Bogie... :) His characters have just the right mix of cynicism and vulnerability, straight-up but crafty, intelligent but street-smart, immoral but you know he'll do the right thing in the end.
