    The Bowler or Derby Hat

Really a NICE one, Alan. Alan's Derby is a tough act to follow. But, here goes......Kinda been looking for a brown derby for a while. Don't see many in my size except from the UK with high shipping cost. Came across this "No Name" Ventilated brown derby in my size on ebay. Pretty...

    The Resistol Roundup

Very nice Pacesetter, Andy. And, very well said on the Melorol issue. I agree 100%. Wish I could have been that clear. As an added thought but not to make it sound as though Resistol took the Melorol name from Borden's Mel0rol ice cream. However, in the ad shown by Alan Mel0rol ice...

Thanks John. It's one of my favorites. The felt is about like my Stratoliner maybe a little lighter and stiffer.

    The Resistol Roundup

I have a Resistol with Melorol on the sweat and brim binding plus additional brim stitching which is not a San Ant. This is what I base my doubts about Melorol being a brim treatment on. Maybe i have misunderstood what you mean by "brim treatment". [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]

    The Resistol Roundup

How do you explain Resistol hats with Melorol on the sweat and have brim binding on the brim edge?

    The Resistol Roundup

I looked at a couple of my Stetsons and other brands and you are right. Some have varying degrees of "roll over" at the point of stitching. Perhaps Resistol simply labeled this technique as a feature the way other brands put a label on a particular brim edge technique such as Mode edge...

    The Resistol Roundup

Do you mean the playboy ad you posted? I thought a "Black Lancer" was a Stetson model. Looking closely at the one Resistol I have, it does seem to have a bit of a roll over at the point of being stitched to the reed. It could just be this hat. Don't know if it would be characteristic of...

    The Resistol Roundup

I only have one Resistol hat at the present, the one shown on this thread and in the link posted in my previous comment. Looking at this hat I can't see any thing that would tie the term Melorol to the brim construction. I had a 990 but sold it last year because of being a stingy brim. I...

    What Are You Reading

Kinda along the same lines of a scary book for Halloween... I'm starting book three of Robert A. Caro's The years of Lyndon Johnson series "Master of the Senate." Should be really scary. :scared:

    The Resistol Roundup

I can see where the Melorol term could refer to the soft felt or to the soft sweatband. The ice cream Melorol term seems to add to this soft reference. Although I just don't see a hat company taking a term from an ice cream company. Maybe I missed something there. I don't see any relation...

    Felt hats in summer..

Me Too. I'm in Florida. Hot and humid summers. I wear mostly straws in summer. I have quite a few and like Milans in summer. I also have a couple of vintage lightweight felts. No liners with tip stickers. Both do well for me in the heat and humidity. I haven't weighed the Milans but...
