You know, I hear stories like your uncle's and I think, my God, how did these people go back to "civilian" life after the war? So often they never spoke about their experiences too. Not to minimize the damage their experiences may have caused but human resilience is truly amazing.
The civil...
Good points all.
Watching that bit in last night's episode about the mother sending a letter with the addresses of the relatives in Rome to her son in service got me thinking. In the 30's and 40's the European immigrant experience was much more recent for many Americans--after all, 20...
This post made me chuckle because it's getting so that when I'm looking through ebay I say to myself "bet Daisy'll buy that one"--and lately I've been right! You'll look like a dream in it--I love beaded dresses.
Your wish is my command Miss 1929. Here 'tis;
I've made a muslin of this and I adore it. Despite the description of it as a "Ladies' Spring Coat" I'm on the lookout for some deep green ultrasuede to make the final version.
Don't get me started on JoAnn's--in my experience their employees go out of their way to be unhelpful. They have good pattern sales and once in a blue moon some nice, non-synthetic fabric but I try to get in and out as quickly as possible.
PS I love your tagline PolkaDotMeggie!
I love the cover art on "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House"--the illustration style looks really familiar--is there an artist listed?
Zaika, thanks for letting me know the name of your illustrator--I've got some postcards done by him which is why his style looked familiar. I'm really...
I'm really sorry we can't talk about this at FL--I've been thinking about it constantly while watching this series. I've also been mulling over the difference between our present war and The War on many different levels, how our current situation may have (or not) colored Burns' work...
I thought tonight's episode continued the high standard set by the previous chapters.
Some thoughts;
I find it simultaneously distracting and helpful that the focus is so narrow--outside of that mention of the New Zealand/Indian troops in Italy there's been very little mention of what...
Cute shoes Daisy! I love that site--I've currently got the wants for this brooch; http://www.shopplasticland.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=P70830508&Category_Code=Accessories
That's a really cool site.
I thought these shoes could be a nice addition to a steampunk wardrobe;

I watched the start of Season Two of Weeds. Not the sort of thing I'd think I'd like in concept but the writing is smart, the acting is good and I laugh consistently even when it's really crass. Case in point, Andy's "class" on masturbation had me crying with laughter as did his relationship...
Ridiculous to try and censor this, particularly since the profanity these men are using is like a box of fluffy kittens compared to the stuff you hear aired on the radio today. What did they say in the first two episodes--a couple of instances of taking the Lord's name in vain and a SoB is all...
