This thread is for, not showing off finished rooms, like in the Show Us Your Vintage Home thread in Display Case, but for ideas, dreams, or works in progress of what you'd someday like to live with. I was thinking this could be a home thread for those of us, who, say, either can't paint or make...
If you DIDN'T feel off, I'd say rock that headband, but if it doesn't feel natural, it won't wear as well as another piece that does.
On the other hand, experiment with a rather sober headband, like one of the myriad of tortoiseshell ones, or another simple style and see if you like the...
How is it more economical? My parents didn't buy me new button down shirts or pants/skirts or dress shoes every year.
Who cares about what-to-wear-everyday hassle? I don't get that. Either you enjoy the picking out an outfit, or you throw your chosen neutral pants at whatever shirt's clean...
My parents wore jeans to their graduation, I think. Or something about my granddad told my mom she was grounded if she didn't and then she changed right after the aisle walkage.
It was the '70s.
I don't think this is new.
All right, you talked me into an 1897 Winchester pump-gun instead, happy? :p
I can at least imagine having that one. I think my guy would drop if I explained I really truly needed a subgun no matter what the local laws said.
Is Noxema facial cleanser whatsit (you all must have SOME experience with Noxema, right?) the same as cold cream? Well, aside from that odd medicinal smell of the Nox' which claims to be the eucalyptus or whatever. It may not smell as pretty as other brands, but does it clean as well?
My...
Man, I wish, but I'm moving to gun-control land so I might have to content myself with just a bolt-hole.
But America back in the day? You betcha. Something nice and classic like the Marlin 1895 lever-action carbine would be PERFECT. Or is that too pre-Golden Era to be on topic? lol
I doubt it was entirely about protecting property, either. In my family the vintage first-generation Americans often had rather clear memories of frightening things that had occurred to them or their loved ones directly. "During the pogrom, I hid under the bed" kind of stories.
A hiding...
Don't eat pork, but baked beans are all right in small doses, especially at barbecues. At some point I want to throw a vintage barbecue with lawn games and people wearing panama hats and so on.
But my favourite barbecue/garden party items growing up were definitely devilled eggs and dill...
I need to get updated measurements (I've been dieting and exercising) but I believe at this point I'm somewhat "vintage" figured, i.e. about 36-25-36 but now I'm hearing I might be a smaller band size and larger cup size than I had thought, which confuses me, but supposedly I might not be aware...
I should buy fake lashes if I want to try this, huh? I don't know how I feel about glossy pink lips, though. I might have to do a glossy nude or pinkish-brown, I think, I'd feel awkward in bubblegum though some women carry it so well.
Is it possible to not look ridiculous in fake lashes...
My mother still says that it occurred to her about a month after my sister (who is now 23) was born, she should have named her Beatrice rather than what she actually named her, Amanda.
I think Beatrice/Beatriz are rather classic.
Jenny, Laura, thank you so much for the links. It's hard to Google this stuff away from just satiny goth numbers that are mostly the ribbon lace-up and no real tightening, but at the same time I wanted something a bit more fun than Spanx.
You girls are great.
Tightlacing that shifts ribs...
Well I'd not say I plan to tight-lace quite like she does... rather like going to your first dance class with the intent to be Ginger Rogers, isn't it? But I would be interested in losing a couple inches and seeing how it goes. Maybe working up to something more dramatic.
I am a size 4 in...
Where are you ladies buying these lippies? I was going to treat myself to a tube of lipstick as a reward for surviving my first week in my new job - yippee! - but I was surprised to see good ol' workhorse Revlon at eight dollars apiece at Walgreens. Should I go to Walmart? Should I go to...
So I just read through this thread... I haven't checked it out in ages... and upon seeing Dita really is MY height (and starlets never seem to be, they're always these leggy things...) I was heartened to think I might get a similar effect from corsetry, but I don't know anything about it...
Really? Heh, that's so awesome. They really are classic names that sort of play well with other names, you know?
I mean there are cool names out there that still set a certain tone and don't work with everything else ever, if that makes sense. (it did in my head!)
