I don't have much vintage clothing at all - most of my vintage stuff is in the "miscellaneous stuff" or "sewing notions" department. :) But I have found the following tips helpful:
Search out the "little old lady" thrift stores - not Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., but smaller independent...
I think one of my vintage sewing books has patterns for dickeys that you can scale up, as well as some instructions about keeping them from creeping. If anyone likes, I can scrounge it up and scan a couple of pages.
Good to know. I use it too, although only with people I know very well, since it's not terribly polite. ;)
I love this thread! The only thing I can think of offhand is "Hold your horses!" May or may not be vintage, but I sure use it. :)
I like the Baldwin Marcellers! I wonder if they're completely flat, or a little rounded?
You could always glue two layers of foam together, to make it thicker but still pliable. I also want to say they sell rubber sheets, for making your own stamps, but those might be too small.
On the boiled vs. raw vegetables front, I'm sure too many canned & boiled veggies can ruin your appetite for them. Perhaps you could try julienning a bunch of fresh vegetables and lightly sauteing them in a healthy oil, with soy or curry sauce for flavor (if so desired). Incidentally, bean...
I love cheongsams! I tried making one for myself some years back, but it didn't work out. Now, I'd like to try it again, and do it right this time. They're just too yummy!
$213,000 is probably a bit high. But not as high as you might think; there are housekeepers out there who are very well paid for doing a typical wife's chores - meals, grocery shopping, housework, ferrying kids to and from school, etc.
Have you tried carbonated mineral water, possibly with some juice mixed in? It helps satisfy *some* of the must-have-soda cravings. :)
I helped myself to a lot of soda a couple weeks ago, and my skin definitely paid the price. I can get away with a little bit on occasion, but not a lot, and...
My skin is incredibly oily, so the thought of adding more oil made me very, very nervous. But after reading this thread, I thought I'd give the oil cleansing method a try. I had some grapeseed oil, which is supposed to be astringent, and I've used it the past two nights. My face hasn't broken...
Not surprising; "American Living" is a Ralph Lauren collaborative effort with JC Penney's. For whatever reason, the RL name isn't attached to it, but it has a similar aesthetic.
August 20:
1938 - Lou Gehrig hits his 23rd career grand slam - a record that still stands.
1940 - In Mexico City exiled Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky is fatally wounded with an ice axe by Ramon Mercader. He dies the next day.

I get the impression that this article was presented toward young, single working women, not wives and mothers. Otherwise I'm sure they'd have mentioned *something* about kids or the husband!
Thank goodness! I was experiencing some acute withdrawal pains, especially as the days lagged on.
Thanks to all who helped with the restoration. :)
Oh dearie me. Butter and cheese make everything taste better! I'm not sure I could survive on such a diet. :) (If you want to find yourself in deep, deep trouble...slice a bunch of mushrooms and saute them in twice as much butter. This is culinary heaven.)
If I were going by this diet...
^ Lady Day, I remain amazed by your incredible artistic abilities. :eusa_clap All your self-portraits really are darling!
Y'know, you should make the outfit for real...
Too true!
Thanks for the article, Lizzie. We definitely need to have a good work/life balance.
I do take issue with one thing - the author seems to think that even a "dog tired" woman can come home, change, have a bath and a leisurely dinner, be able to go out in the evening, and *still*...
Thank you! Rats, though - they're pretty expensive, especially with the exchange rate. :( I shall gaze upon them from afar. I'm with Miss Neecerie - $50 is my idea of an expensive shoe! I'd like to be able to afford better quality, but it's not really feasible right now. *sigh*
I'm with you there - I have oily skin that turns slick even after sitting for a few hours in an air-conditioned room. :( Even waterproof mascara just slides off my face, because after all, it's only waterproof, not oilproof! I've heard makeup primers recommended; I don't know how well they...
