I have a feeling that if you're looking to blend in, you're in the wrong place. :) But yes, I think you're somewhat right. The question is knowing when to blend in, and when to dare to be different. If you own your style, people will come to identify you with it, and you can set yourself...
I've always heard that Vitamin E oil is acnegenic (i.e. *causes* acne). I don't know how true that is; I do know it's recommended for scars, stretch marks, etc. And your grandmother's skin looks really nice, so maybe it works!
For the jojoba oil, try stores that sell health or organic foods.
A reminder to all of us to remain calm in a crisis, even if Martians do seem to be attacking.
My favorite:
Space invaders are attacking, and you're moving household furniture?? :p
A lot of these people are in design or eclectic fields, where "anything goes". Being out of the ordinary means that you're hip and in tune with all the up-and-coming trends. Plus, the magazine needed something unique for their fashion shoot; if it were common, no one would give it a second...
That, or organza (preferably silk, but can use synthetic). You want a nice crisp interfacing - taffeta is crisp, but has little bulk. Some sew-in interfacings are stiff and bulky, or too limp.
I have a similar situation with the sewing notions I buy (buttons, zippers, rickrack, trim, etc.). I really, really hate to damage the packaging! I try to open things as carefully as possible, if I must.
I don't *think* I've ruined anything vintage. I'm usually paranoid about damaging...
Interesting story! Not a bad idea, either. I'm not quite sure why bartering went out of style; it's really quite useful. Sometimes more useful than an exchange of money, especially with inflation.
I fear you're right. :( But hey - doesn't it seem so much more tolerable if you're dressing...
Crepe? Or a silk or silk/wool suiting (nothing too heavy)? I'm almost thinking wool gabardine, because you want those nice diagonal buttoned edges to stay crisp.
I'm totally envious of the pattern. :)
Ray should've wone - he was really the best dressed of them all. :eusa_clap
Kenyatta (Red Jacket Guy) was second best, IMHO, but shouldn't have gone with denim. Vest Guy was just OK - decent casual style, but nothing to write home about.
Rats! I haven't got an XM radio.
But...is this one of the old Lux theater productions by any chance? If so, there's a copy downloadable here at the Internet Archive.
Glad I could help a little! And I know what you mean about loving tricky fabrics. *sigh* I do have to say, if you're dedicated about it, you can work with just about anything once you have the basic principles down. Sure, you'll tear your hair out, but you'll get to work with the pretty. lol
My nearby stores always seem well stocked, so maybe it's a regional thing? [huh] I know Goodwill in particular seems to always have a bunch of Target castoffs. (Which they price accordingly, even if the item probably went for less at Target's final clearance. *sulk*)
Me, I'm just opposed to...
Is that a wool dress? Those look like moth holes, which are just about impossible (so far as I know) to repair. :( There are some places that do expensive re-weaving. If they aren't too visible when you wear the slip, I'd count yourself lucky.
Moths are one species I don't think I'd mind...
Nope! Different weaves behave very differently. The toughest-to-sew (and tough to cut) silks are charmeuse, chiffon, georgette, and (to some degree) china silk/habotai. Basically, anything slippery, sheer, and shiny is going to be hard for a beginner. Silk, by its nature, is a little more...
These are 60s patterns, so a little out of our typical era, but I had to share them anyway, if nobody minds. :) Particularly the far right pattern (dated 1959) with the unique Asian-style monogram letters. I can't wait to try them out. :)
You think that's bad? The craft stores have been selling Halloween stuff since July or August, at least. (Sewing stores had Christmas fabric sales in July. )
It's been getting chillier, so at least the very word "autumn" doesn't sound crazy anymore. :)
