    Toiletries of the Golden Era

The vanishing cream is totally not dangerous, it also won't do anything to lighten your skin. The other recipe is totally dangerous, but might lighten your skin. There are a lot of fade creams out there. I don't know of any that were around in the golden era, but most are not really all...

Mommy, why is that man crying??

Well what did they use for paste? I believe you could probably steam the offending postcards off. It might wrinkle the pages, but that is better than postcards. You might be able to iron the pages back, but who knows.

    How's Business?

My company is expanding, we are building a green (solar electric powered) plant in Los Angeles at a cost of something like $20,000,000. The company has a private jet, a factory overseas and hires out the Oviatt building in L.A. for company parties. Life is good at the top. If only my boss...

    Hair and Humidity

Sounds like my hair. I went to Miami a while back and it was soooo curly, just not at the same rate. I asked my Florida transplant co-worker what a good solution is for humidity frizzes, and she said a ponytail, or lots of styling product. Yuck! back to the hairnets...

    Cold and flu remedies?

My dad's sore throat remedy (which works): 1 tsp cayenne pepper: put it on a spoon, put it in your mouth and swallow. The sore throat feels better, as soon as your mouth calms down. I think that the pepper either, kills the germs, or causes your throat to expel the germs or some-such...

    Back to zits

I can't "stand" cold cream. I used to use Noxzema in high school, but that is different. I also used to have horrible adult acne. I believe my mother is correct in saying don't touch your face when you sweat. You rub bacteria all over your face and then it breaks out. Even so, I...

    I hate summer.

Okay, 106 F here yesterday. I have a/c but it did not help. It was 95 F in my kitchen. Yuck! Also, it rained, so it was theoretically 100% humidity. The worst part was that it cooled off to 85 while raining, but then it went back up as soon as it stopped raining even though it was 10 pm...

    Art Deco Architecture

Well I guess I am starting to take Art Deco for granted, since I live in San Pedro. Here's a few from the chamber of commerce: The sad thing is that my friend and I were getting some Taco Bell on Friday. We drove past some new construction. They tore down his...

    Hair and Humidity

I used to have a hairspray that was designed for humidity. Of course I can't remember the brand, but it was aerosol. However, what I do if I want curls to stay is...use a hairnet. Then they can't fall out, literally. Hair tends to be frizz-free as well. Have you tried that?

Gloves: sizing, etiquette and all other stuff

what is NOS? Is that a typo? Table cut gloves should cost more, and be of better quality. I was just saying that cloth gloves are more economical, with a good fit.

Gloves: sizing, etiquette and all other stuff

I checked my glove links, table cutting is where they cut a blank and then check to see if it stretches. If this isn't done then you get ill-fitting baggy gloves. Or you could just get fabric ones with stretch and save a lot of money.

Most amazing dancers Ive Ever seen! [clip]

Gymnastics maybe? In case you didn't notice that girl weighs about 90 lbs soaking wet. That would help a lot (a tiny partner). This is a form of dancesport known as Theatre Arts, you can find teachers for it. I've seen crazier stuff than this done in full evening dress (and heels on the...

I was looking at those 30's patterns, they're great. Hopefully we can see them moved to the stuff I've made thread soon.

    Hair Color...

My mom uses some kind of semi-permanent color so that it rinses out and is less obvious. She is still mostly brown though. I would caution you to be careful about highlights to cover grey hair. I have seen some really badly done jobs. It seems that your options are to have a "skunk" effect...

    Long Hair/Older Women

My mother hates the menopausal helmet, and she is in her mid 60's. She doesn't usually wear her hair really long, it gets to shoulder length once in a while though. She always hated the I am wearing my hair the same as in high school look too. I tend to agree, but I love marcelled hair on...

Gloves: sizing, etiquette and all other stuff

I'd heard that opera gloves were fashionable about a year ago, but haven't seen that trickle down to the streets. I was in Paris in March and no gloves. There were some lovely white kidskin gloves for sale in the formal department of Galleries Lafayette, but that is to be expected. It was...

    Wigs

I've been known to wear wigs, but my friends complained they don't recognize me. They are kinda scary to wear dancing. They do save time when going out though. Rosie, I've bought from international wigs, but that was a few years ago, I didn't have any problems, maybe their service has...

Start with the yellow gingham. It is like $2.99/yard at Joanne's. If you mess something up, you can go buy more and start over!
