    Vintage Heel Heights

I noticed that there are almost no vintage flats before around, 1950. I know that since ladies wore skirts that heels look better, but still. The only common low heeled shoes are the occasional saddle oxfords and the WWII era "utility" wedges. I noticed that vintage keds even came with...

    Looking vintage wearing slacks.

Thanks for the complements on my relatives, I only accept the cutest ancestors! ;) I wore the blouse from Vintage Vogue #2859 today with wide leg trousers. I have to admit that even with the wedge sandals it didn't scream vintage. Why? I wore my hair in a ponytail. It's all in the...

    Flowers in the hair

Hm, you could switch to "fall" flowers and leaves in the Autumn, and then berries, poinsettia, snowbells, crocus for winter. I would avoid things that scream tropical, like hibiscus in winter, but other than that do whatever you like.

    I want Edwardian

Edwardian is very lovely. Since I am my own dressmaker, I get to try to reproduce these things on my own. Has anyone tried www.patternsoftime.com? I noticed that they have most of the patterns that Lauren mentioned plus about 3,000 others, but many only in one size. Some I know are taken...

    Favorite Vintage Perfumes

I can't believe I didn't mention Apress L'ondee, it's lovely. Another classic Guerlain that you might try is Jicky. It started a perfume revolution. It is a fougere, from 1889 it opens with a fresh, cool lavender (and citrus) note, and warms up as it dries.

    Favorite Vintage Perfumes

Caledonia, I love Bandit, but you might find it a bit "challenging." This is one of the least sweet fragrances ever. The main notes are leather and aldehyde, and not much else. If you have a good nose you might smell the carnation (I don't always smell them) and the castoreum (not usually a...

    Looking vintage wearing slacks.

Give up your pre-conceived notions of what woman actually wore then. Here are some photos of my relatives: My grandmother at a picnic, around 1930: My great-great auntie (6' tall!) hiking: They were normally well dressed ladies, but I don't normally think of 30's slacks and a...

    Vinyl record sales increasing

Also, I like that 78's don't skip, but the shattering is truly heartbreaking. :( Personally I load my favorite CD's on my computer with a current play time of 112:12:40. I think that means 112 days, 12 hours and 40 minutes. Yes I realize that this is 6 gb, but I can back it all up if...

How many of you were taught this in high school? Or, at home?

Hm, my class in high school said to dress appropriately for the job being interviewed for. So, if you are a professional, suit and tie for guys. Dress or suit for gals. If you are applying for a lower level job, suit is optional, but dress neatly. If you are applying for a job as a...

More and more Ladies wearing Vintage?

Mostly awful. I have seen some nice fabrics on the frocks at Barney's. However: 1. $5000 is out of my budget 2. I don't wear a size 00 3. Even if I had $5000 and wore a size 00 I have no where to wear the frock 4. The style isnt that great. I've also noticed that vintage is harder...

    Vinyl record sales increasing

Oh dear, I may have to get that new turntable after all. I know that some of you like the hisses and pops, I prefer a clean vinyl (or in some cases shellac) sound. Here is my dream turntable (only USD$15,000) The ELP Laser Turntable: http://www.elpj.com/ " Laser stylus reads record...

    What keeps you awake?

How to Stay Awake at Work (long post) by Tourbillion I have a very boring job. I am required to do routine, menial tasks (even though they know I am not stupid) to fill up my day so that I am never idle. I also got all of the work that no one else would do, i.e. it is A---'s job to do...

    The Muumuu

Well I am not sure I want to be like my grandmother, who had to put on Tangee rouge and lipstick at 90 to leave the house for the ice cream truck. She smeared 2 dots in the middle of each (withered) cheek and a little cupid's bow. She also sharpened her nails into little daggers. Then...

    Unknown Family Photos

I collect photos like that one too, but I think that one is more late 1890's early 1900's. The ladies sleeves are all pretty small, and they all wear pompadours, could be 1898, but more likely 1901. You guys aren't going to make me scan my photos? are you? I have photos of all kinds of...

    "Kids these days" threads...

I just looked at my elementary school yearbook, and there were no fat kids in my grade, one in grade 5, and 2 in grade 6. That's right, a K-6 school in the 1970's with 3 fat kids. There were maybe 4-6 kids per grade that were in the 95th plus percentile, with slightly chubby cheeks, or thicker...

    LACE

You might also dig around on ebay or in antique shops, because the bobbin lace pattern that is used in the blouse is pretty common, I've seen it at in Edwardian clothing at the local antique swap meet.

    Dita Von Teese

What do you expect? There is mention of a pin-up model. I've seen her "show" and yes she had pasties, but when we hired her for my bosses party (I wasn't invited) I don't believe she bothered. Anyone seen any of her ehem "films?" p.s. how long ago was she blonde? She's had the Bettie...

    Sew Retro

It isn't like I prefer vintage thread, it is just that I got some silk thread at the garage sale. I've mostly used it for buttonholes, but never fear, I even use modern patterns.
