"Take your hats off, you are indoors".

Hat question: I work in a fancier restaurant and while a good deal of our male clientele wear hats, isn't it bad etiquette AND bad luck to put a hat on a table?? Or was my Grandmother being a bit loopy when she taught me that? Cheers!

    Help, Ladies! A Restoration Crisis!!

ohairas had some great ideas! i'm not that handy, so if it were me, i'd call tailors and restoration specialists or even costumers around town and talk to them. i bet someone is adept enough to take it on, or to come up with some contingency plans. it's too gorgeous to give up on. i hope it...

    My Favorite Years.

Streamline. Design. Architecture. Clothing. Minimalism + elegance. The idea of a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing, and wearing the right clothing for the occasion. The romance of traversing the country by train, or the ocean by liner. The music. Whenever I need a fix I go here (virtually) and...

    plumper lips

Yes!! Sort of. It does rub off on them and they can feel it. A co-worker of mine is dating a gent we know and she uses one of these products in lip gloss form. Well, when they smooched while she was wearing it, he kept complaining that his lips felt "tingly and odd," and sure enough his lips...

Oh, the Stigma of an Astigmatism. . .

Specs made of wood, or records!! Hi all, There is a neat-o guy in Chicago who makes spectacles out of wood, and records too. He also does custom work ($$$-$$$$), and makes things in many, many styles including vintage styles. (A gent in the T.S. Eliot style, wood, round frames would be *dead...

Oh, the Stigma of an Astigmatism. . .

Lady Day- They both have their merits! The first pair is adorable, but seems a bit more casual. The second pair is very polished and a bit dressier. Can you have them both?? They look lovely on you. Cheers!

Love at first sight? What Balloney!!...or, does it really happen?

In my experience it happens. For me (and the former he), it happened that way. But as it turns out, love at first sight doen't guarantee compatibility, great partnership, or good communication. All of the other stuff relationships need is just as hard to come by. And instantaneous connection...

    Handsome Fellas!

a few more gents... Oh I'm so glad you put up Jason Issacs as Lucius. Those movies just kill me... gotta love JK Rowling, if only for having a say in the casting... Alan Rickman, David Thewlis, Ralph Finnes, Jason Issacs, Gary Oldman... And for those of you ladies who are like me and...

    Handsome Fellas!

In addition to many of the men mentioned here, I've got to go with Samuel Beckett. Young and old, the man was darn fine looking, and a dead *brilliant* writer to boot. very young. a little wiser.

    Favourite Scents

Violet perfume users: I've tried Devon Violet, but I have yet to find a Violet (primary notes of violet; not blended) perfume that doesn't spoil really quickly. Violet is a really fragile note with not much longevity... Is there one you all have had more success with than others? Has anybody...

A nice way to finish my day.

I'm so glad to read this thread about manners. Often I feel like one of the last people on earth who was taught basic respect. This thread makes me feel heartened. Elaina, that's a shocking story and I'm sorry that happened to you. Good for that kind man to speak to your son. I know that...

    Maxine Sullivan's House

Wow. Wow!! I LOVE Maxine Sullivan! Her rendition of 'Loch Lomond' is *gorgeous*, aside from the unnecessary male backing vocals. I mean, really good stuff. He vocal control was superior, her voce was haunting and masterful in its containment; what a talent. Thank you *so much* for posting this...
