As mentioned in the Christy's thread, I am in need of a blue hat and, being very keen on contrasting bands, but wanting something quite dressy, which I think precludes a lighter band, am considering ordering a Navy Adventurer with a black band. Before I do so, however, I wanted to seek some...
Thanks for the warning - I am actually fairly relaxed about the ribbon depth, so I think that I will give them both options in the order, so that they can supply me with the one available, without needing to come back for further instruction.
I think I will certainly take your advice in respect of the brim drop and revisit the crown height question. This isn't going to be something that I will be doing regularly so I want to get it right! Thank you for your advice.
Thanks for those thoughts - I take it that 1/2" is probably a bit too much of a difference between the front/back and side brim widths? My thought regarding the crown height was that shaving less than 1/2" off would probably make relatively little visual difference, but I will have another...
Gentlemen,
Grateful for some advice, please. I am looking for a new hat and, having three shades of grey (including blue-grey), beige, brown and green, would quite like a blue one. My budget is very limited and, notwithstanding the issues raised on this thread, a Christy hat through Hornets...
When I get home I will post some pictures which should illuminate. In the meantime, yes, the free ends rest one over the other. The slip illustrated here is of two piece construction with a fairly pronounced rib effect that is quite stiff to the touch - a little like a linen canvas, perhaps.
Unfortunately my page on this subject went down when Geocities closed, but, to quote myself:

An interesting little selection of items here, the solid Mother of Pearl collar studs and cufflinks are really quite interesting, plus a nice leather collar box, NIB men's galoshes, etc. Please see the link below...
I wouldn't really describe the fastenings used on waistcoats as studs, since to my mind a stud must have a post and a back, whereas generally in my experience waistcoats take what is essentially a shanked button with a removable retainer.
Sorry - I should say that the last item in my list is a 1934 3d coin mounted in a gent's ring, sovereign-style
