Vintage 3-piece 42" ch 37"w Spanish Tailored Dinner Jacket suit - excellent condition

Thanks! I must admit it pained me a bit to decide to pass it on, especially as I had bought it expressly to replace my current c.1950/60s Burtons SB/PL dinner jacket, which rather pales by comparison but fits better...

Vintage 3-piece 42" ch 37"w Spanish Tailored Dinner Jacket suit - excellent condition

This is a very nice example of a 1940s(?) Spanish 3-piece dinner suit, which I am selling somewhat reluctantly as I have decided that keeping a dinner suit which is somewhat too big for me when I am already trying to lose weight is not only folly but a counsel of despair... At any rate, here...

1918 Danforth Mills Crack-A-Jack tailoring catalog

Very interesting, thank you! Like others, I am intrigued, not to say a little disturbed, by the trousers, especially the lack of break on the day suit trousers, but autre temps, autre moeurs, I suppose! I also find it intriguing how waisted the sack coats appear to be, compared to what I think...

    Gentleman's umbrella, where to find?

You might consider sourcing a vintage one perhaps? My local "umbrella man", as well as operating an umbrella sales and repair stall in the local market, maintains an eBay store retailing vintage Fox-frame umbrellas which he has restored himself, often making the parts by hand. They are not...

    cigarette holder users?

I used to use, purely for aesthetic purposes, a shortish (about 4" I think) black bakelite holder with a silver end. That was back in university of course. I still have it but haven't smoked in years. Subsequently I acquired, but never used, two Dunhill White Spot cane cigarette holders, such...

    Question about spats

Yes, I forgot linen! I have a pair of off-white linen spats, I can't decide if they were made that colour or whether they have aged! The good thing about linen, I found, was that you could boil wash and starch it, which left the spats looking pristine, but also helped keep off the dirt a little.

    Permanent Trouser Crease

As Undertow notes, the only permanent crease I am aware of in the market is the one he describes, with the use of a small strip of thermo-setting plastic. Whilst it doesn't sound a nice thing to do to a pair of trousers, I understand that it is the only way to get a decent crease in fabrics such...

    Question about spats

I concur with Edward, many spats one finds here in the UK are made of some kind of wool felt in grey, tan or black, in roughly that order of commonality. I believe I have also seen a pair of fur, perhaps fox! As to measurements, I have never been able to work out what the figures which one would...

    Show us your British suits

Quite remarkable! As to the question about lining, that the breeches are unlined is not surprising to me as I understand that such lining was considered a little effeminate, even in the case of the scratchiest tweeds! I would also take it for granted that the waistcoat would be lined - I don't...

Procedure for Tying a Single End Bow Tie?

Dear Auld Edwardian, please don't apologise, the open sharing of views and opinions makes this forum the interesting place that it is, and you certainly shouldn't reproach yourself for not being aware of a rather tedious disagreement in Another Place! Delighted to be of assistance!

Procedure for Tying a Single End Bow Tie?

Dear Annixter, no offense taken, I assure you! I'm afraid I can't take credit for drawing the diagram, it just so happens that I had a copy which I photographed and posted online, at which point blacktieguide picked it up. As to tying, I am now sitting at my computer with the original tying...

Procedure for Tying a Single End Bow Tie?

I realise the picture (which I supplied) doesn't carry with it a verbal description of the knotting, but I think it is worth persevering with; it does illustrate it accurately and indeed is the source from which I learned to knot my single-ended ties. The gentleman who hosts the Black Tie guide...
