OK, I DO feel better about winning now as I am 5'9"and I look I look like I'm wearing a child's dress if my knees aren't covered and then some.
I agree that for £95 you could totally get a real one! And I know which I would rather have.
It is hard to imagine the Queen ever having been...
Haha! Sounds like half the British contingency of the FL were bidding on that dress then!
I was very dubious about the V&A reproduction without having seen it and you have confirmed all my doubts about it Kate. The fact that they don't even specify measurements for the sizes is really dodgy...
I think they must have been predominantly American as I don't remember ever seeing any British photos of girls wearing them and vintage pairs are hard as hell to find over here.
I do love a dress with big patch pockets. That one is actually a reproduction being made by the V&A. They are selling them, made to order (but not to measure), for £95.

I've never seen it for sale in this country but I see copies on US Ebay from time to time. Seems to be about £15 plus the same for shipping to the UK. Does look fabulous though.
Because they're awesome! lol
The reason you haven't heard of them is because they are a British brand - very famous here and worn by the queen in the 50s.
That's what I've always thought too. I try to wear SPF 50 under my make-up in summer (although I pretty much never sit in the sun for any length of time) but I still get the odd freckle on my nose even so! And that's in England!
I ordered the V&A Horrockses book today even though I really can't afford it until payday - but I just couldn't wait! I've been collecting Horrockses ads in old magazines to use with an article we're putting in the magazine I design and I've got such an itch to buy an actual dress now.
Here's...
I wonder if that exhibition was the basis for the one the Fashion and Textile Museum are doing now. And don't apologise for outbidding - you won fair and square :D I'd love to see pics of you in it though.
I'm seeing your photos fine and I bid on that second dress of yours too! It is fabulous - I'm very jealous!
If you want to put your pics online you need a flickr or photobucket account - or something similar.
The image needs to be online to post it. Right click on it and select 'copy link location' then come back to your post here and click on the little square image of a mountain with the sun behind it and paste the link into the box that opens. That sounds more complex than it actually is!
EDIT...
Anybody else a fan of these? I especially love Al Parker and Coby Whitmore.

I think the suit fabrics are pretty crappy and wouldn't recommend them - buy your own and send it over if you can. Apparently she is up for this as long as you ask in advance. Not sure if it would affect the price or not. The poly-cotton mix she uses for skirts etc is fine - not shiny or...
Cynthia gives VERY clear instructions and makes you double check everything. She's really good so you don't need to worry on tat score. Don't try to measure yourself though, get a friend or partner to help.
I don't own any but I am a fan and, as an exhibition and book about them are just launching here, the prices for them are about to go stratospheric! So please, show us your Horrockses. Here are a few I found with a google search.
Originally it was a term for a style of music in the 50s (anybody more expert than me feel free to jump in!) but it has been adopted by a subculture that grew up from the post-punk scene in the early 80s. It now encompasses a style too, which is mostly 50s Americana but with touches of the 40s -...
