I can't say this one "got away", exactly, as I knew from the start I couldn't swing the price for such a fragile piece (shattering on the trousers :( ) but I was watchin' this adorable set 'til the very last second:
1930s Palazzo Pants and Top
That's so cute, Betty Amazing! I've had this tutorial for making saddle shoes out of Keds bookmarked for a while... such a cheap, easy way to spruce up my canvas beach sneaks.
Well, I did mean the caption to be slightly tongue-in-cheek... surely some nights those coeds had better things to do than sit around rolling up their hair! lol But yes, this reminds me of that scene in The Major and the Minor, where all the girls at the dance have the Veronica Lake wave...
Oh my, that's gorgeous!! Straight out of my Dale Evans-tinged dreams! But to want it is one thing... to be able to afford it is another lol. Especially as it seems to have quite a few cosmetic issues.
I adore the Advanced Style blog so very much; strange, as I'm 19, but I find those ladies so much more fun and inspirational than any other contemporary fashion site. There's a documentary coming out this summer I gather, so exciting! The trailer is also a goldmine of brilliant quotes...
Very elegant, Mrs Chaddsley_Corbett! I do have a lovely little 1940s Tootal mens' dressing gown that I wear all the time. It's a wonderful look, I think; makes me feel like I'm some sporty lady on her country estate lol.
I always was smitten by Katharine Hepburn's smoking jacket-esque...
Yes, pixies were quite the rage in the '50s. Audrey, Jean Seberg, and Leslie Caron all looked very gorgeous with cropped hair! Though if you are growing it out, I love the fingerwaved look in the shoot Miss Laurie Marie posted.
Also, this great blog is run by a gal with the cutest pixie cut...
^ That is funny! lol
There's this adorable little old diner near me that hasn't really been touched since about 1965, but I always feel mildly embarrassed when I'm there, because people frequently assume I either work there, or am some nutcase who just got dressed up in theme lol.
Personally, I will even keep things that are irreparable if they're older and have aesthetic value. Now I've got a shelf full of '20s frocks now that are too shattered to wear, but I'd never dream of repurposing them; they're valuable references. Just fifty years from now, think how rare it will...
Agreed. I feel bad 'cause I'm a girl, and we're supposed to looove that movie lol... but I much prefer the grittier Capote story. Though if Marilyn Monroe had played Holly like he'd envisioned, I think it would've been much, much better (no offense to Audrey-- she's perfectly adorable).
I really don't think beach pyjamas were limited to society's upper echelons in America. I have an original early 1930s pair (seen here) that was clearly handmade; they're well-worn with numerous period mends, and appear to have been made from feedsack or an inexpensive cotton. And yes, I wear...
Yeah, like how in '30s pictures "cute" is bandied around as a sincere compliment, and seemed to say more about character than looks.
Like I said earlier, I think cute is a nice compliment, no matter your age. Also, I doubt many of the people complimenting us are really laboring over just what...
