Congrats! Man you did well!!! I never see anything anywhere near that cheap at yard sales even for cheap wool garbage. Seems like most people selling anymore are looking everything up on ebay and the internet thanks to all of these TV shows promoting "picking."
Who care's if it's wool when it has a real bat skull!
I wonder if he can make one big enough to hold real .308, 7.62x39 or at least .223 in the band as the faux .22 LR isn't going to cut if for me....
Yeah there definitely doesn't seem to be a recession with pricing of vintage fedoras and especially with 7 3/8 or larger sizes! Last summer it did seem the prices of fur hats went down a little. But this past winter straw hats were also getting good money (in general) so seasons don't seem to...
BTW, isn't it in your size? Maybe you should make him a "realistic" offer. Might look good on you. If nothing else the offer might help him to start come down to reality of what the hat can realistically get.
Either that or maybe he can get Eastwood to wear that hat (and take a picture of...
Yeah, that guy has been trying to sell that for some time. Last time I recall seeing it I think it was $4k or so that he wanted....Seems to me another of these maybe a size smaller sold on the bay a few months back for a few hundred. Also more than I would be willing to pay, but certainly...
I've found things people use to pad a hat that is a tad too large for them including napkins and tissue paper (the most common) to band-aids and once a piece of rope in a late 50's Gun Club Stetson. The Stetson's sweatband had an obvious curve that made it obvious something was under the...
BTW, did anyone else notice the size tag is 7 1/8? Seems like a large size for such a petite lady of the era, but maybe that was because she had long and thick hair. The hat looks so pristine that it must not have been worn much.
So which one of you guys bought it as the auction closed this morning? It went for a lot less than the John Wayne movie hat Heritage sold last year (that was the one that went for $119K), but still for the price it went for one could buy an almost new car or at least a new entry level car! I'm...
You aren't the only one! :( I just want to know who the lucky guy is that snagged that San Antonio beauty! And give congrats to them of course....
I guess it's time I write myself a script to monitor the classifieds to catch new listings hourly I might be interested in rather than wait for...
1950's Royal Stetson grade Panama proves that straws can get good money out of season.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200677996938&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123&autorefresh=true&autorefresh=true
It's a pretty nice panama maybe not perfect condition by any means though...
Thanks for sharing your e-bay find by scanning and posting it for all to enjoy and learn from!
Now if only all these tools and machines were easier to find (and didn't cost a fortune when found)...
I always wonder (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) if there are warehouses or old...
Glad you were able recover those hats! So I'm curious, what kind of feedback do you give for the seller that does that? Given that they came out ok and the price was cheap no loss (other than some time to deal with it), but such stupidity on the part of the seller sure is annoying.
Some...
In the states most people think the boater is part of a barbershop quartet costume (hence many ebay listings mention that) which I find annoying...
I wore a few of my just acquired this year boaters out this past summer (just ended in the USA) and don't recall anyone saying much though I'm...
Typical seller tactic of seeding as many search queries as possible with the most popular and most valuable search keywords... Like the sellers that call every hat a fedora to make sure everyone will see it.
Maybe the first seller paid $149.98 or at least half of that ($74.99) for the box! LOL.
The segment on ebay that thinks they have the Antiques Roadshow Find of the Century is both amusing and annoying.
One good one was the Pale Rider Stetson from the 1980's that was posted a month or two...
Yes, it is good for them to improve the buyer experience for resolving bad purchases, but they should not do that at the expense of the other aspects of the buyer experience...
To the extent the changes at ebay are improving things I agree and clearly the crappy sellers need to be weeded out (and they usually are by bad ratings and buyer dispute claims). The problem is not all of the changes are for the better....
I don't want to feed Ebay's ever increasing fees, but since there are people that want that history they could probably get enough people to pay for it....I'd like to go back and see a year or more sale history--I'm referring to things bought by others (as I'm sure many of you also would like...
