That's a Wind Trolley, not specific to the Open Road, and many hats from that period would have had them. You could conceivably take it out and button it to the top sportcoat or overcoat button hole so the hat won't blow away in a heavy wind.... at least that's my understanding...
Depends on the manufacturer. Most hat makers get their felt bodies from the same places, so they'll often have similar colors, but they won't be the same colors as what comes in wool felt hats. Also, HatCo (owners of Stetson) make their own bodies I believe, so you likely won't find the same...
You might have better luck looking at a custom fur felt hat. There are several custom hatters that might be able to help you put together THE hat. I would recommend Falcon Park Hattery, as Parker is a great guy to work with. Along with the custom route, there is always a bit of time involved...
Typically these questions might be best suited for the "Ask a question..." thread, and this one has come up quite a bit there. Any hat brush would work, matching the shade to the shade of felt; meaning, if it's a dark hat use a dark brush, if it's a light hat use a light brush. You can find...
I agree that going with an Akubra is a good beginning as the felts are able to handle a lot. The Stylemaster is nice, as is the Federation IV (my personal choice as a good starter). I think that you will be on your way to a great start with either.
Yeah, I just search on all sorts of different item names until I find something that doesn't come up so easily, then watch that. The less-watched items are more likely to go for a lower price. And often, the mis-labeled/categorized items are less watched, and often better deals.
I'm here, we didn't get hit nearly as badly as was predicted. In fact, none of my family members lost power during the storm yet every prediction was that millions of people in Central PA would be out of power for hours up to days...
+1
And don't forget, do NOT drive through water, even if it looks only a few inches deep. You never know whether there's more coming, or whether there's a deep drop-off just beyond sight.
Well, my sister in Philly reports they're getting some heavy winds right now. With school and work all closed, we're just sitting and waiting. I'm hoping we don't loose power, or that if we do, it's not for long. Hope everyone else out there is safe.
They're saying that the eye will head right for us and hang out for a while... should be interesting. Hope everyone else on the board that may be in the path is safe and well supplied!
I would have to agree, that seems to be the time when people (at least in the US) stopped caring about anything except what they can get for themselves. If the human race doesn't return to a collective in some way, caring about others, etc, then we're doomed...
I was considering a snowy river as well, but this silver spur, and the price on the site above, may be the solution. My only dislike is that it appears to be a really wide brim, at 89mm (approx 3.5"). Is this correct?
I had noticed the same with the pictures, so while I was setting up an order for a Maltese Falcon clone similar to his "Falcon", I had discussed with him several times about the flange. He has the capability to do a rounder look, or even a snap brim, so in the end I said simply to do whatever...
We're doing a full thanksgiving for family here. We've got everyone staying with us (2 married couples, 3 kids, and a single brother-in-law, plus my wife and I and our 2 kids) so it's going to be a full house for a week. Not to mention our dog, and another one coming along for the ride.
But...
