I've also got the Whippet out for Wednesday, but have found posting pictures to be rather cumbersome and will need to find a better way. Trying dropbox, but it's not easy to figure out....
I actually like the Charcoal Penman, and had at one time considered getting one, but found Parker's prices a little more in line with my bank account (and Parker's been great to work with). Do you happen to know if John uses the same felt in that the Winchester Beaver felt that Parker uses...
So... I have an order in with Parker right now, originally going with the Granite Beaver felt, but I'm considering asking him to change it to the Charcoal Beaver felt after having seen one of his in that color (and since it isn't in production yet). He uses Winchester bodies, so my question is...
There are a couple of threads here on Indy style hats, but if you want to go all-out and get it just right, you could sign up at COW (Club Obi Wan) and there is a very useful sticky thread in the hat forum there that gives good insight on the crease. I've personally spent quite a bit of time...
There are some Akubra hats that would work well with a straighter brim, and with most of them having a raw edge, it's easier to flatten any remaining curl. You can also get a custom made hat with a flat brim; a member here named Alive 'n' Amplified got a custom made hat from Falcon Park Hattery...

It's also that time of year where sellers raises their prices on luxury things like this, at least the smaller sellers. They're trying to squeeze blood from a rock... imo...
I would imagine that if yours has cracked and the ripples have gotten worse, that perhaps the sweat was just a bad one. Have you contacted Parker to see if he would replace it without charge?
I have a couple of stingy brim (2") 6 7/8 Dobbs hats that I'm trying to unload... there's nothing wrong with them that I can tell, one is likely from the late 60's, one is much more recent:

I really enjoyed this one. It was also fun to have a bit of a back-story, and a proper "passing of the torch" for M as it were... I'd like to see Q in any possible future Bond movies, too.
