I've got a pair of these at mytailor getting cuffed as we speak. While I don't like them as much as any of my vintage H-pants, they're not bad. They're not pegged, but certainly an early '50s style.
Resortes...I'm not at impressed with the gab as I was hoping I would be, but overall I'm...
Well done. I'm impressed with your ebaying skills.
I wore my WPG Irvin last night for the first time. It's giving me what I want...looks good & keeps me warm in 12 F temps.
Yes. I'm not very concerned abou the leather. I think it will hold up well. The only "cheapness" feels like the hardware. Both the zipper and the buckle feel like they won't last much rugged wear.
As for the "red" look to the leather, I think it is just my lighting.
Here it is. I'm sorry to hear about your sizing issues Boyorastroboy. It does look big. I agree with you regarding the arm holes, they are big. Besides that, the size works well for me as it fits real nicely with a sweater underneath. The chest is nice...not too snug, but not too big. I'm...
Boyorastroboy...did your's arrive today also?
I'm very happy with what arrived today. From an Irvin novice perspective, it's gonna be a nice jacket that keeps me warm for a long time.
I cannot, however, get my image to show. I seem to be following the instructions by pasting the...
I, too, ordered mine on Saturday along with a rollneck sweater. I'm kinda hoping I'll have a package waiting for me when I get home tonight, but I'm not banking on it.
I will try to post pics once it arrives.
I'm afraid I may not be much help in the "compare to other originals & replicas" department. I certainly know vintage clothing, but leather jackets and especially wartime jackets go beyond what I would consider any area of expertise. I need something to keep me warm & the Irvins sure look good...
Driving to work this morning it is 5 degrees F & the ground is already covered with snow & ice here. I'm patiently waiting for my WPG to arrive as I join the club.
I still think the later Ink Spots stuff is great, just not as exciting to me as their early jive. And yes, their Mama Don't Allow is my favorite version of that song.
The Ink Spots REALLY transformed themselves sometime around 1940 from being a novelty jive combo with the "Pork Chops & Gravy" sound to their popular ballad sound like "The Gypsy." I prefer the former. Once they got into their ballad years, everything starts to sound redundant to my ears...
Belafonte & the Muppets created a love of a calypso sound in my head, about 15 years before I knew what calypso was. Now my kids love the Muppet take on the Banana Boat Song. His calypso album is still one of my most popular choices to listen to when lounging in the pool during the summer months.
What a voice,of course...but what a monster trumpet player!!!
What I like best is his sense of humor. I can't listen to Prima without a smile on my face.
