You can still get Lux soap! I saw it in a hardware store, of all places, but Vermont Country Store carries it.
The Wolf: I too have wondered how Petri wine tastes, but I have never seen it.
With all the OTR shows we love, we also get a heavy dose of their sponsors ads and tend to memorize their jingles (Signal gasoline anyone?). Which ads, if you were living during the airing of the show, would work on you and make you go out and buy the product?
For me, it is Anchor Hawking...
I haven't found any place to download Paul Temple series - most of the OTR networks I'm a member of don't have them. Audible started releasing the shows on iTunes, but I was quite upset to find (after dropping $15) that there was only one show on the "cd." Arg.
From the swatch page she has, I was under the impression she has vegan options. From swatch page: "We have vegan colors in black and red faux leather."
Seriously, no fans of Paul Temple?
Well, Soap Detectives has some podcasts of Paul Temple mysteries for those who want to give the series a listen. You can subscribe to the podcasts via iTunes, the blog has some quirks and is not showing old podcasts on it right now.
Vintage Inspired Outfits
I've noticed a trend in blog-land of ladies putting together composites of ideal outfits and such. I have found this a great way to find new shops and open my fashion tastes a bit more. With that, I thought it would be interesting for the ladies of the lounge to...
American Arts and Crafts were on the cusp of electricity being used in domestic housing. Electricity in cities wasn't really utilized until 1905 (sometimes later) and even then it was only for street lamps and for extremely wealthy families. Most of the A&C movement took place during Victorian...
I'm little surprised there isn't a thread on Paul Temple yet, he is hands down my favorite detective. I love the interaction between him and his wife and the stories keep me on the edge of my seat. Anyone else a fan?
I was having brunch with two friends on mine, one was a man dresses with a boater, suspenders and the whole nine yards. My girl friend and I were both wearing vintage dresses with her topping it off with a hat and me with a fascinator. A lady of about 75 came up to our table and said she loved...
I think the key in this hairstyle is to set a horizontal half wave, there are instructions here. This is what pops the ends of your hair out making that bump. The side by her ear looks like a diagonal half wave (also on that page). After making those half waves, I would set curls below the wave...
I'll post some more interiors of the Robie house later, but I fell upon this wonderful writing nook from Purcell and Elmslie who have a similar style to Wright.
Writing Nook, Purcell house
Lake Place, Minneapolis
How cute is this writing nook! I am going to see if I can reproduce...
You may want to check out the Chicago Postcard Museum. It is an online museum of a really great collection of postcards. The owner of the collection only has a small percent up, but he is updating frequently.
I'm an art historian and I've been doing research on Arts and Crafts architecture in Chicago. In my research I fell upon some interesting personal photos of the family that purchased the Robie house from Mr. Robie after he sold it (after living there for only two years). I'm assuming the father...
OK - how do you do that little wave in the bangs in this 'do? I know Johanna has a little trick with a curling iron for that - but I'm anti-heat styling and don't own an iron anyway. How would a wet set for that look?
Oh man...I hate painting my nails! I know - very un-vintage. I'll look into info for vintage manicures for a post though - I do have some 1940s hairstylist magazines that have articles on giving a good manicure. I 'm finishing up my master's right now, so it will be a few months before I can do...
I'm not in Cali, so I've always called-in my orders and I have to say that I got the woman a few times and she was the worst. She kept saying she was busy and would call me back. She never did so I ended up calling her back three times, never being able to place my order. I mean...I want to give...
Both colors are on sale and I would highly recommend that style - they are so comfy. I have mine in green and am super in love with them. I always get compliments when I wear them, which is a nice little boost when I'm having a crummy day.
Just wanted to point out something about the Savoy shoes...
I didn't notice this when I was frolicking around the house in them, but the toe-box is really small. I took them out about town and came back with two bruised pinky toes. I've been stretching them for the past few days and this seems...
One thing I find really tricky is pinning curls so the pin doesn't how, as seen with the pics Belaqua posted of Kidman's hair. How does one do that without losing the shape of the curl and hiding the pin?
