I've really struggled with pin curls, and as I look back, I think part of it is using too small of a section of hair to roll. I would end up with such tight kinks, so much frizz, and as you said, not that much different from my natural curl pattern - the only difference being a round barrel-like...
I think this is cute but not feasible for my hair type, not unless I swore to repeatedly straighten/style my bangs multiple times a day. I have very curly hair, and really struggle to keep the kink out of all my retro styling attempts. From past experience, my bangs will not lay like this when...
Great links - thank you. I'm going to try a rat. I think part of it is that I'm not yet comfortable with bangs (I was so much younger when I wore them before!) that I'm a bit unsure. You've inspired me though!
Your bangs look great here. You're using the rat, I take? I need to make one of those. I haven't been sectioning off as much as hair as you have, or as the video Zombiegirl posted, not near as much. Might be something to that. I'm thinking some of this might be mental too. GI Jane, looking at...
Resurrecting this thread for a bit. I've been trying my hand at faux bangs lately and I keep running into the same problem - my forehead. :( I have a high one, you see, (a five-head instead of four, as Tyra Banks would say) and when I go to pin the roll to my hairline, it ends up with the roll...
Retro GI Jane, SheBear, Amy Jeanne - your styles look great! I'm quite envious. Amy Jeanne, I wore my bangs in a similar roll/curl yesterday at work (didn't take any photos though :() and got an overall decent response. One guy kept looking at my roll while he talked to me, lol, but other than...
This is adorable. Can I ask what kind of roller set you did with this? I cannot for the life of me get that kind of wave in the front and I don't know if it's a cowl lick or just poor rolling technique.
This is sort of the opposite of 'comments you get when you dress vintage', but I still thought it was share worthy. I was in Wal-mart recently, waiting in a long line with an older woman to my right in another long line. She was a little thing, I'd guess in her late 60s or early 70s, and...
They're deep within the layer of your skin. It will take time to fade. Even with an Rx of Retin-A, most dermatologists will tell you not to expect results for 3-4, even 6 months.
I second this. It's the closest to Max Factor's pancake that I've found. It doesn't even require setting with powder - just letting it dry and gentle buffing with a tissue if needed. At around $9.50 (or less online) for a large cake, it will last a long time even with regular use.
Keep in mind...
I opted to buy the Cantu 'strengthening' product that didn't have the 'cones in it, but now I'm wondering if maybe I chose wrong. I have this brand's pomade that my curls love, but it seemed like frequent use caused build-up (it contains petroleum) so that I was clarifying my hair a lot and...
Very nice! And how nice of your grandmother to teach you the skill. Men were the first knitters anyway, and it used to be taught to youngsters as part of the general upbringing. What is your next project?
I do also use coconut oil for a deep treatment and love it. It is the only oil that can actually penetrate the hair to improve it. It helps keep frizz down, and I do sometimes buy things from the ethnic section. They have great solutions for curly hair.
It's lovely! Everyone's turned out great. I am so thinking about going red now.
Kamikat, is it possible the ends soaked up more color and hence the darker shade? That happens to me after several months of coloring. I have to brush through to the ends during the last 10 min instead of applying...
Many women in the 30's kept their hair long and simply pinned/tucked it under in the back (aka Helena Bonham Carter's as the Queen Mother-to-be in The King's Speech). There are several tutorials on YouTube that help with this. Here's one and she has length.
