OK, I'm wanting to tap into all the knowlege on the site again ! My query is this : apparently the so called 'half-belt' leather jacket such as that currently offered by Aero was a popular style in the 30s/40s. There are two versions offered, the standard half belt and the 'long' half belt...

SO FORTUNATE !
Hey MDF
That looks to have been quite an experience from your photos - especially being in the nose gunners position. The B17 must have been even better. You are extremely fortunate living in the states and having opportunities like that to actually fly in those great old...
Told ya so !!!
I've just had a quick look at their 'site' and below is a 'lil snippet of what they have to say
If the good tailor sought to make of every easy client an enlightened and demanding one, a Niven, Grant or Astaire, it would be a bit counter productive for him, not to mention an...
They obviously regard you as being too ordinary Paddy - God alone knows what they'd make of me in that case !!!!!!!:eusa_doh: Don't lose any sleep over it - as you say, it's no great loss to you. I hate attitudes of superiority with a passion, no one person is greater or lesser than the...
Unfortunately, here in the UK the once familiar red phone boxes became a 'thing of the past' many years ago and were replaced with characterless parodies in aluminium and perspex. :eusa_doh: However ....... even these have diminished drastically since the rise of the dreaded cell phone and here...
I got measured for a suit today ( see my post in suits ) Its in a 40s style - double breasted. I guess there were many different styles of shirt collar around then but was there any one particular type favoured by the majority ?
Would some collar styles be unsuitable with a DB. Re ties...
Cool photos Kenny !! Those guys getting issued with brand new kit - one trying a B2 cap - obviously bomber crew. I think of what they endured and wonder how many of them made it through the war.
Thanks for posting those
Colin
I would welcome your advice / observations gentlemen on the following :
It's many a year now since I owned a suit and on the rare occasions when I have had no choice but to 'dress up' - funerals, weddings and such, I have always made do with a blazer/slacks combo of some sort. In the last...
I CONCUR !!
Couldn't agree more with all these glowing testimonials - I got a pair of Bills
M1 button fly flat fronts a couple years back from Aero in Scotland. I was ordering my A2 from them and they were selling Bills at the time so I bought a pair to see what they were like. Needless to...
Amen ! and AMEN !!
Born in 1953 and grew up with just such a childhood as you describe. All I can say is, when I take stock of the world we're living in today then I'm glad I'm nearer the end than the beginning ! At least no one can take away the memories
Contrasts
Paddy will be the person to give you a definitive answer on this one but as far as I am aware, the darker seal brown jackets usually had lighter, contrasting knits ( rust ? ) and the lighter - russet - jackets had the darker knits I think !!
There's no hard and fast rule really...
Re-assured !!
Thanks guys for such a positive response. I must say that the jacket does feel comfortable as far as fit goes - its not restricting in any way. I'm not unhappy with the way it looks, just felt the 40 might be 'spot-on' as they say. Anyway, I do intend to get one of their 'real...
After seeing so many pics of Paddy in his A2s, I have learned just how important it is to get the fit just right on an A2 for that authentic WW2 look. When I bought my Aero two years ago, I rather foolishly ordered a 42"" when I am a 40" chest. Admittedly, the guy I spoke to advised a 42...
My Sentiments Exactly !!
:eusa_clap Wise decision - why pay a LOT more for NOT MUCH more ??? I'll look out for you, though I can hardly miss that jacket artwork !!!
Don't forget your 10 x 50's !!
Colin

Go for Gold !
Hi again Juergen
I have been only once to Duxford Flying Legends in 2004. I got the cheapest basic ticket and managed to get good views of everything. Many people had brought their own folding chairs with them but you can buy these chairs at the show quite cheaply anyway. I...
To Paddy
Hi Paddy
Last week I tried to send you a message via your 'South Seas' clubroom thingy - did you get it ? I think not perhaps:eusa_doh:
colinsurman@hotmail.com
RE-THINK !
Thanks guys for the responses - you're right - it all seems a little reckless, I was just curious as to what was involved - guess I'll stick with the 'natural' method and just wear it a lot !
Thanks
Colin
