I've been thinking the same thing! It'd be really convenient and helpful. (Not that there aren't a lot of pics already in the "hairdos" thread and elsewhere, but they're not the most easily searchable threads.)
If you have a bonnet hair dryer, 10 minutes might be all you need to set the Carusos--provided those giant rollers would fit under the hood, that is. Also, you might want to try a different kind of clip, such as Conair Superclips. Whenever I tried the Caruso covers, my hair would still be damp...
So do the new Remington sets get as hot as the vintage ones? There's an interesting-looking current set called "Speed 2 Curl" that has tabs to hold your ends in place, possibly eliminating the need for end papers.
Oddly enough, while Remington shavers are plentiful up here, I haven't seen...
I bought some today and am trying to figure out the best way to use it. There are conflicting reports online--some say to use it as a pre-shampoo treatment, others say it's fine to use a small amount as a leave-in treatment after washing. Thoughts?
I recently got a free Conair Infiniti set, which is black and cool-looking but unfortunately doesn't meet your "no clips or clamps" criteria. I don't care for the clips it came with so I use Conair Superclips. It has 8 1-1/4-inch, 6 1-inch, and 6 3/4-inch rollers with a flocked surface, which...
This is probably a shot in the dark, but has anyone tried the new Physician's Formula Organics line? I'm trying to find some opinions before I splurge at a drugstore sale this week.
Leaette, I feel your pain, but it's not hopeless. Keep practicing--it's worth it, and doggone it, it's kinda fun too! Of all the many life-enhancing things I've learned through the Fedora Lounge, perhaps the most gratifying is that yes, even super-fine, stick-straight, flat-as-a-pancake hair...
Oh, same here...irons do come in handy for that, and for doing bangs as well, since it's typically an exercise in futility to try to wind them around a Stick. But again, pincurled or cold-roller bangs usually last longer on me--thank goodness they dry pretty quickly.
Forgot to mention that I...
On the low end, the Conair Instant Heat models are swell. They do heat up quickly, they have a variable temperature dial, and it's very easy to wipe off styling product gunk from the ceramic surface.
But Hot Sticks curls last much, much longer.
Well, you *do* have to hold the ends of your hair against the middle of the stick for a second or two before you start rolling up--at least I do! And my set gets pretty darn hot. With practice you get the hang of doing this quickly enough to avoid "feeling the burn" (as Jane Fonda used to...
Thanks Kitty and Red. So many gals earlier in this thread said they use a spray bottle--I thought I was nuts when it didn't work well for me. I did buy some Motions foam last month on your recommendation, Red, just haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

The spray bottle technique
Is there some kind of special spray bottle that works best with setting lotion?
I've tried several different kinds of spray bottles with Lottabody, but the spray keeps coming out in a thin, heavy stream rather than the wide, light mist I'm looking for. This...
Sad news for New York-area girdle-wearers
I just learned that Frishman's in the Bronx, perhaps the last of the step-back-in-time, full-service, utterly genteel ladies' corset shops in NYC, has closed down. Getting fitted for longline bras and girdles there was the most intensely feminine...
>>So do those wrap-curl-thingies (technical term) work at all for you guys, like the ones you get from Walgreen's? I'm looking for something that I can do overnight since I don't have much time in the morning for it to dry. mille fois merci!
If you're referring to the Goody Pillow Soft...
Aw shucks, thanks. Covers my love for both the Mother Road and the ultimate year in '60s pop culture and rock & roll in one fell swoop.
And thanks for the head's up, Red...I'll know to avoid those contraptions if I ever see them in a Rexall up here.
Nikki, as I already gushed on flickr, your Christmas pics are beyond divine.
For those of us who haven't been able to get our mitts on vintage fingerwave clips, would these do-dads produce a similar result? Or would they just give more of an '80s-looking crimp...
