I'll post my first impressions here when it arrives. I doubt that I would find a matching ribbon to change the Stratoliner band if I had bought it, since the color is unique. I believe mismatched colors would bother me more. Plus, I can purchase my own liners.
I was considering the Stetson Stratoliner SE True Blue, but I am not sure about the crossover band:
I recently found the Stetson Lassiter, which uses a standard Grosgrain band in the same color scheme:
However, this is a wool felt fedora, and it is unlined. I would prefer a fur felt hat...
Here are some pictures of a re-creased "The Capri" from JJ Hat Center. Part of their season-end sale. This is a "Grade 8" panama in tan with a brown band and a 2 3/4" brim. It shipped with a center crease. I purposely chose a center crease panama with the hope of re-creasing it into a diamond...
I've re-creased my Akubra fedoras to get a bubble-less bash. Here are the results:
Akubra Federation IV Moonstone (Diamond):
Akubra Federation IV Dark Brown (Loden?) (Diamond):
Akubra Stylemaster Federation Navy (Teardrop?):
Akubra Stylemaster Carbon Grey (Teardrop?):
My...
I finally fixed the diamond crease on my Akubra Federation IV fedoras. The shape is no longer a six-sided diamond.
Moonstone:
Dark Brown (Loden?):
Here's an interesting question: anyone wearing a fedora with a deuce-trace/ace-deuce-trace crease?
My two Akubra Federation IV hats have arrived today, one in Moonstone, and the other in Dark Brown (Loden?). I have created a diamond-type bash.
The hat shipped with an extremely shallow brim crease. I have decided to leave the rear as-is, and the front creased slightly down. This does...
I've seen pictures of fedora brims for both bound edge hats and raw edge hats. It seems that the raw edge ones are shaped differently (appear flatter) in the same areas that bound edge hats are curved. I think the bound edge provides extra support which serves the purpose of creating a better...
I ended up not specifying. I think that a stiffer felt may create easier symmetrical creases. I can't tell which of your three hats is the Heritage. Chalk one up to Akubra's quality control.
Now that I see the three hats, I could say that the Tawny Fawn color could substitute for a decent, more...
I did not know you could specify a hat felt preference on HatsDirect. Since I will most likely be ordering from them, I'll keep that in mind.
I guess its the Federation then. Since I am a large 7 5/8 (61cm) hat size, I would prefer a bash high enough without needing to put a bubble in the...
Hello everyone,
I particularly do not like the diamond re-crease of my Akubra Stylemasters for a number of reasons. The most significant ones being the level in which I had to lower the crown front, and the crown taper. The diamond shape that I was going for is the classic diamond with a flat...
I've been playing around with crown shapes with my three Akubra Stylemasters. Here's what I developed:
The first is my Federation Navy hat:
Stylemasters usually have a very shallow indentation in their teardrop crown. I made the teardrop deeper and slightly wider to look more like a Stetson...
I am not claiming to be a hat expert, but I have learned a thing or two in the past month.
This is a Montecristi 24x24 Fino that I received over two months ago:
This hat arrived as pictured in the image above. Note the out of shape brim. I regret to say that I have reshaped this hat...
I don't know if this qualifies as actual hat work, but I recently purchased a liner set for my two panama hats. Thanks to @deadlyhandsome for the recommendation. Here are the finished products:
Montecristi Havana:
Stetson Aficionado:
I used Scotch Double-Sided mounting tape under the...
My Panamas have been irritating me, so I decided to invest in a hat liner solution. I have two possible candidates lined up, but have no indication of their quality. The first is a liner from Etsy...
I've worn a fedora almost every day for the past year. Currently have an Akubra Stylemaster in Navy, Grey, and Loden (looking to acquire a Moonstone). I'm among the younger generation (20's). I only see people on rare occasions doing the same. I'm inspired by the hats of The Blacklist and movies...
