What did your grandparents pack for personal protection in the Golden Era?

:) Tempting, but no. Don't have the money now, and I expect if I showed up at a police station tomorrow to apply for a license I'd still just get a really strange look. Or clapped in handcuffs.

What did your grandparents pack for personal protection in the Golden Era?

Yeah, I'm on about page 35, and the District's legal team is pretty much taking a beating on every point. It's entertaining.

    Trailer Parks?

I've known a lot of very nice people who lived in mobile homes. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. However, it isn't a wise investment, from a financial standpoint. A mobile home, like anything with wheels, depreciates from day one. A normal attatched-to-its-foundations home does the...

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

What's a few hundred bucks for a new hat when you're shelling out tens or hundreds of thousands on a house? Just a drop in the bucket. Don't worry, Chanfan, we can help you rationalize any hat purchase here! :p

    Necktie Economics

I don't know why they do it, but I'm glad they do. I regularly pick up "last year's model" Brooks Brothers ties at Filene's Basement for $15-20 each (normal retail $60-80). If I wanted, I could often get MSRP $150-200 ties for $30-50 there, as well. There is a noticeable difference in the...

What do you do for Living?

I'm a staff assistant in the executive branch of the federal government. But soon I plan to be a full-time seminary student, with an eye toward pastoring or teaching one day. And I'm toying with the idea of working in menswear retail on the side.

    Brim Width and Head Size

Honestly, it's very much an individual thing. Maybe the best course of action for you would be to go to a local hat store (this one showed up on a quick Google search) and spend a while trying on hats with different brim widths to see how they look on your head.

    A Fedora Lounge Akubra Hat?

Because the FL's idea of the "Golden Era" is around 50-100 years later than Sator's! ;) Kidding aside, welcome, Sator! it's good to have you here.

Light Grey Flannel Trousers -- DEAD?

Is this the same Greenwoods? If so, their brick-and-mortar presence must be quite a bit different from their online retail setup. From that site, it looks as though the people who run the place wouldn't know a pair of good flannel trousers if they bit them on the rear.

    BRACES (SUSPENDERS)

I'm not having much luck imagining how that arrangement would be any better for action than the common Y-back setup. Can you explain?
