I forgot to mention that I would also entertain offers. The darker of the two hats is, in my opinion, the better of the two because it has a nicer "finish" in the sweatband, including that wax paper lining between the sweat and the liner--- and the felt is sooo soft, probably 100% beaver. It...
I have two brown, beautiful soft felt hats for sale. Both were made by master hatter Gary White. My best guess is these two hats are circa 1985 vintage, so, they are earlier "Gary Whites" with the earlier style liner--he has been making custom hats for about 30 years now. Because I am having...
Dave, you can do a lot better than $150.00, although if you really like the style it would be very difficult to find another like it.
I wouldn't offer more than $50 and that's because of the size, otherwise a good quality '60s stingy brim is worth about $35-40.00. If you were a size 7- 7 1/8...
I'll let you know and hope to post a photo or two...but I still haven't figured out how. I'll have to review one of the tutorials here. By the way, are you anywhere near Tilton, NH? I have family there.
Well, that was me and I thought I was bidding on a "Whippet". I guess I'll take it anyway. I usually know what I'm buying but lately I have been getting stuck with moth eaten hats. Hopefully, this one won't have issues. Good to see someone else here appreciates it.
Welcome back, Chief
I too underwent heart surgery 9 years ago (quintuple bypass). It was difficult at first to change my lifestyle. This hobby of ours is actually a very beneficial activity for a heart patient. I allow myself time to search information, learn new skills and feel like a...
I don't post much but appreciate this special community and the contributions of its members. All my best to "Chief". Heart surgery is scary but very much something modern medicine can handle with relative ease. I too underwent heart surgery 9 years ago and recovered fully after quintuple...
I now own well over 100--probably 130 or so, and need to stop adding and start selling off at least the ones that do not fit me properly.
I just bought a 7 1/2 Optimo, fished from the bay for way too much (and I wear 7 1/8)---that's how bad my disease has become. It's just that I read about...
UNBELIEVABLE. How I missed that hat despite my diligent ebay searches is beyond belief or sense of reason. Congratulations to the winner; I am green with envy...in my size too.
"cheap" whippet
I think the price is a reflection of the non-whippet like bash and an apparently narrow brim. Something seemed amiss but probably just an optical illusion...I bid on it but lost it to a last second snipe. I regret not bidding higher but already have two whippets in the kennel.
I own too many but can't stop
Scott. I like your top twenty method of rotating purchases and sales. I now own more than sixty and have to adopt a similar system---maybe top thirty? Problem I have is that I tend to get attached to all of them and find it difficult to part with any.

I too was bidding on this hat, was the next to last bid. I wanted it real bad and can't believe so many knowledgeable bidders bore in on a "woman's" hat! This hat could well be quite the gem and possibly a 1000+ weave count.
It's getting pretty rough out there on...

Congratulations, and thank you for the heads up. 7 1/4 is what I'm hoping for and I am really looking forward to this one. Any ideas on the weaves per square inch of your hat?

Got it! Will post photos when it arrives. I have been stalking it for a week, in fact, this seller had another one that sold with a BIN for $79.00...unfortunately, I missed that one.
Thanks. I inherited my love of hats from my grandfather, who used to wear a brown Borsalino on his bike, wearing a suit, to and from work. Time frame 1950's, in the old country.
I have been wearing, buying, collecting and selling hats for many years. When I stumbled upon this forum I was...
mayser
Sue, I'm glad your husband likes this fine old Mayser. This is my first post on this wonderful site, and, to have the privilege of making one of the most prolific members happy with one of my hats, albeit one that didn't fit me, is a real thrill. I purchased this hat for my son about...
