Actually, the early Whippets are a whole lot better than you think, when you couple that fact with their style and fantastic dimensions, you have a very, very nice vintage hat. I should know, I own three and really think they are SUPERB hats. I've owned or still own all kinds and brands. Are...
Just wondering, but was that $600 Whippet more coveted because the name was on the sweatband rather than on the liner? was it an earlier version of the model? I just could not believe the price it sold at and am looking for possible reasons. I own three Whippets and am now thinking of selling...
Alan, yes, I was VERY lucky with this one. I was expecting a last second snipe to take it near $100 and was happy when it didn't happen. The typo certainly helped but if others search like me, they would have found it by simply typing "Knox hat". Sometimes I just don't understand how this...
Knox Vagabond
Won this Knox Vagabond, last night. Any thoughts on how to "diminish" the evident moth damage? I don't think a wider ribbon is going to be enough. This one is probably going for a stretch to 7 1/4 and a wider ribbon...
Bowlerman, if the hat had come with a 2 1/2 brim I never would have sold it. I just love wider brims but even so this hat is really very nice, great felt and well made.
Very disappointing result with this hat. I actually lost $75.00 (not counting ebay and paypal fees) on this hat and never even wore it. I hope the winner enjoys it and appreciates its quality.
I'll stick to vintage from now on.
Good luck. You already have some competition and less than a day to go. We'll see if Art Fawcett originals are keeping at least half their value. I bought it on ebay more than a year ago at a higher price than my starting price in the earlier auction, with the intention of stretching it but...
Jeff, I had missed this post--sorry. I will definitely stop in. I've been meaning to come in on a Friday to drop off a couple of hats for new ribbons and sweatbands. I've talked to the owner a few times but he really didn't seem interested in renovations; he sounds like it's almost an...
Jed, now that I know you work at Delmonico's I'll have to stop and visit one of these days. Do you know where this auction was going to be held? If 7 1/2 they are way too large for me but one never knows about reported hat sizes.
I live in Clinton and work in Branford. Where do you live?

I was shocked it didn't even meet the starting price. This is an Art Fawcett!! I realize that size 7 is a bit on the small side of things, but...
Anyway, here it is again, at a lower...
Jlee, you got that right! The guy really irked me particularly when he stated that he knew hats because he was from NYC and this was made of cheap, thin material. I checked his history (he's new to eBay) and his only other purchase was a cheapo new/modern Churchill for the same price as my Art...
The second, lighter hat is now on Ebay. I have decided to keep the darker one as I will probably have no occasion to ever own one as nice. Sometimes it takes a little attention to something you already have to more fully appreciate its qualities...
Can you pros let me know if my pricing is out of the range of "reasonable"? If there is no interest here I'll probably keep them because I can't possibly hope for more interest on eBay where the general population probably has no idea who Gary White is. Thank you in advance.
I have way too...
